கல்யாணமாகாத அக்கா இருக்கிறபோது தம்பிக்குப் பூணூல் போடக்கூடாது; ஒரு வீட்டில் மூன்று பிரம்மச்சாரி இருக்கக்கூடாது என்கிற மாதிரி வெறும் ஸென்டிமென்டில் தோன்றிய வழக்குகளை ஏதோ பெரிய சாஸ்திர விதி மாதிரி ஃபாலோ பண்ணிக் கொண்டு, வாஸ்தவத்திலே சாஸ்திரத்தில் கண்டிப்பாக உபநயனத்துக்குச் சொல்லியுள்ள வயசு வரம்பை மீறுகிறார்கள். இம்மாதிரி ஸநாதன வைதிக மதத்தின் ‘ஸ்பிரிட்’டுக்கே வித்யாஸமாகச் செய்வதையெல்லாம் மாற்றினால்தான் தேவலை. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகள்

There are some sentimental rules not specified in the sastras, which we seem to follow more rigorously. For example, the belief that upanayanam (poonal) ceremony for the younger brother should not be done when the elder sister is yet to be married, the belief that three Brahmacharis should not reside in the same house etc. are not rules from the sastras. Under these pretexts, the upanayanam is not done at the age prescribed by the sastras.
