ஒரு முறை வழக்கம்போல் பெரியவாளை பார்க்க வந்தேன். எப்பொழுதும் போல் ஒரே கூட்டம், எப்படியோ பெரியவாளை பார்த்துவிட்டேன். ஆனால் பெரியவாள் என்னை பார்க்கலியே என்ற கவலையுடன் அங்கு அமைந்திருந்த கம்பியை பிடித்துக்கொண்டு நின்றிருந்தேன். திடீரென powercut ஆனது. பெரியவாள் எழுந்து உள்ளே போக தூரத்திலிருந்து கம்பியை பிடித்துக்கொண்டே வந்தார். எனக்கு பெரியவாள் நம்மை பார்க்காமல் போகிறாரே என்று ஒரே வருத்தம். பெரியவா கம்பிக்கு அந்த பக்கம், நாங்கள் இந்த பக்கம். திடீரென்று பெரியவாள் எனக்கு எதிரில் வந்தவுடன் current வந்துவிட்டது. உடனே நான் பெரியவாளை பார்த்து இரண்டு கைகளால் கன்னங்களிலும் போட்டுக்கொண்டேயிருந்தேன். பெரியவாள் சில நிமிடங்கள் நின்று என்னைபார்த்து ஆசிர்வதித்து சென்றார். 2 or 3 நிமிடங்கள் தான் உடனே current cut ஆனது ஆனதுதான் வரவேயில்லை.(நான் பெரியவாள் என்னை பார்க்கவில்லையே என்று கவலைப்பட்டேன் அப்பொழுது பெரியவாள் எங்கும் இருக்கிறார் எல்லாம் அறிந்த தெய்வம் என்று அந்த சின்ன வயதில் எனக்கு தெரியவில்லை. இப்பொழுது உணர்ந்து ஆனந்தப்படுகிறேன். இவற்றை எல்லாம் எழுத வைத்த மஹேஷுக்கு என் மனப்பூர்வமான ஆசீர்வாதங்கள்.
பெரியவாளுக்கு இப்பொழுது மணிமண்டபம் இருக்கும் இடம் பாலாறு. அப்பொழுது பாலாறு நிறைய தண்ணீர் ஓட்டம் இருந்துகொண்டே இருந்தது. மழை காலங்களில் வெள்ளம் கூடவரும் அவ்வளவு தண்ணீர் ஓடும். அதனால் பெரியவாள் தினமும் பாலாறு சென்றுதான் குளித்து வருவார்.கார்த்திகை மாதங்கள் விடியற் காலையிலேயே நதி ஸ்னானம் செய்ய செல்வார். அவருக்கு பின்னால் எல்லோரும் ஓடுவார்கள் பெரியவாள் அவ்வளவு வேகமாக நடப்பார். அந்த காலத்தில் பெரியவாளை தொடர்ந்து போகின்றவர்களுக்கு ஜாகிங் (jogging ) தான். பெரியவாளுக்கு சமமாக யாராலேயும் நடக்கவே முடியாது. எல்லோரும் ஓடுவதை பார்த்து என் அக்கா லஷ்மியிடம் சொல்லி, சொல்லி, சிரிப்பேன் சின்னப்பெண் அல்லவா. பெரியவாளை பார்த்து எல்லாம் அப்படி சிரிக்காதே என்று கடிந்துக்கொள்வாள். இன்றும் பெரியவா நடந்தது என் கண்களிலேயே இருக்கிறது. பெரியவாள் நதிஸ்னானம் செய்யும் போது அவருக்கு பின் பக்தர்கள் எப்போதும் தண்ணீரில் மூழ்கி எழுவார்கள், பெரியவாள் எத்தனை முறை மூழ்கி எழுவார்களோ அத்தனை முறை எல்லோரும் மூழ்கி எழுவார்கள்.
இந்த முறை பெரியவாள் காஞ்சிபுரமடத்திலிருந்து நெல்லுக்காரத்தெருவிலிருக்கும் கச்சபேஸ்வரர் கோவிலுக்குள் இருக்கும் குளத்தில் கார்த்திகை மாத ஸ்னானம் செய்ய வந்திருந்தார். அப்பொழுது நாங்கள் கோவிலுக்கு அருகிலிருந்த ஒரு வீட்டில் குடியிருந்தோம். பெரியவாள் கோவிலுக்கு வந்திருப்பதை அறிந்த அப்பா உடனே அம்மாவை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு கோவிலுக்கு ஸ்னானம் செய்ய சென்றார். எங்களையும் வரச்சொன்னார். நான் SSKV பள்ளியில் படித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தேன் அதனால் பள்ளி செல்ல ready யாக இருந்ததால் உடனே செல்லாமல் நிதானமாக சென்றேன். அதற்குள் பெரியவாள், பக்தர்கள் எல்லோரும் கூட்டமாக கோவில்விட்டு கிளம்பிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். உடனே நாங்கள் பெரியவாளை பார்த்து நமஸ்காரம் பண்ணி எழுந்தோம். அவ்வளவு கூட்டத்தில் பெரியவாள் என் அப்பாவை அழைத்தார் சீதாராமா, “நீ கூதுரு நெத்தின ஏமிப்பெட்டுகுந்தி சூடு ” தமிழில் (உன் மகள் நெற்றியில் என்ன வைத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறாள் பார் என்று அர்த்தம்). அப்பா உடனே என்னை பார்த்தார் நான் அங்கிருந்து பெரியவாளை திட்டிக்கொண்டே (என் நெற்றியில் என்னயிருந்தா இவருக்கென்ன), அப்பா வந்து திட்டப்போகிறாரே என்று பயந்து வீட்டிற்கு வந்து உடனே என் நெற்றியிலிருந்து மையால் போட்ட சிலுவையை (+) துடைத்துக்கொண்டு பள்ளிக்கு சென்றுவிட்டேன். நான் 5,6,7 class கள் C.S.I பள்ளியில் படித்ததால் என்னக்கு இயேசுநாதர் என்றால் ரொம்பவும் இஷ்டம். அவர்கள் நீதிக்கதைகள் வகுப்பு தினமும் 1/2 மணி நேரம் இருக்கும். அந்த கதைகளை கேட்டு, கேட்டு சிலுவையை போட ஆரம்பித்தேன். அப்பா மாலை ஆபீசிலிருந்து வந்து இன்னொரு முறை உன் நெற்றியில் பார்த்தால் அவ்வளவுதான் என்று என்னை கடிந்துக்கொண்டார். அதன் பிறகு நான் + போடவேயில்லை. அப்பொழுது பெரியவாளை எங்கள் தாத்தா என்று நினைத்தேன். அதனால் அவரை திட்டினேன், அவ்வளவு கூட்டத்தில் பெரியவாள் பார்வை என் முகத்தை பார்த்ததே என்று இப்பொழுது ஆனந்தப்படுகிறேன். சில சமயங்களில் நினைப்பதுண்டு எங்களை சின்ன வயதிலிருந்து எவ்வளவு அக்கறையுடன் காப்பாற்றிக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறார் என்று புரிகிறது. நாங்கள் காஞ்சிபுரம் சென்றால் காமாட்சி அம்மனை பார்க்காமல் வருவோமே தவிர பெரியவாள் (என்கிற சிவனை ) பார்க்காமல் வரமாட்டோம்.

Once, as usual, I came to see Periyava. As always, the same crowd, and somehow, I saw Periyava. But I was holding on to the side rod, worried that Periyava did not see me. Suddenly there was a power failure. Periyava got up and grabbed the iron rod and moving towards inside. Periyava was that side of the rod, we were on this side. Suddenly Periyava came in front of me and the power came on. I immediately looked at Periyava and put both my hands on my cheeks. Periyava stood for a few minutes and looked at me and blessed me. It took 2 or 3 minutes for the power cut-off again and it didn’t come at all thereafter. I was worried that Periyava didn’t see me. At that young age, I didn’t know that Periyava was everywhere and that he was an omniscient deity, but now I feel and happy. My heartfelt blessings to Mahesh (‘Sage of Kanchi’-blogger) for making me write all this.
Palar River is the place where Periyava’s memorial (Mani Mandapam) is now located. At that time, there was a lot of water flowing in the Palar River. During the rainy season, there will be floods and so much water would flow. So, Periyava used to go to Palar every day to take a bath in the river. Everyone would run after him, and Periyava would walk so fast. In those days, it was jogging for those who followed Periyava. No one can be equal to Periyava. Seeing everyone running, I would tell my sister Lakshmi and laugh seeing this. She would scold me and say not to laugh like that. Even today, how Periyava walked is still in my eyes. When Periyava takes a dip in the river, the devotees also take dip after him and the number of times Periyava takes dip, everyone would follow the same.
This time, Periyava had come from Kanchipuram Mutt to take a bath in the tank inside the Kachchabeswarar temple in Nellukkara Street to take a bath in the month of Karthigai. At that time, we lived in a house near the temple. When my father came to know that Periyava had come to the temple, he immediately took my mother and went to the temple to take a bath. He asked us to come too. I was studying at SSKV school, so I was ready to go to school, so I didn’t go right away, but went there a bit late. By then, Periyava and all the devotees were leaving the temple in group. Immediately we looked at Periyava, bowed down and got up. In the crowd, Periyava called my father and said, “Seetharama, Nee kooduru nuduru meeda emi pettukuntho choodu” in Telugu (Look at what your daughter is putting on her forehead). My father immediately saw me and I was scolding Periyava (what is to Him, whatever I had on my forehead), I was afraid that my father would come and scold me again, so I came home and immediately wiped the ink cross (+) from my forehead and went to school. Since I studied in 5th, 6th and 7th grades in C.S.I. school, I am very fond of Jesus. Their parables class will be 1/2 hour daily. I listened to those stories, impressed and began to put cross on my forehead. My father came back from the office in the evening and scolded me and warned me if would see me with cross in the forehead again, the consequences would be harsh. I didn’t put + after that. At that time, I thought Periyava was my grandfather. So, I scolded him, and now I am glad that Periyava looked at me even in such a crowd. Sometimes we think about how carefully he has been taking care of us since we were little. If we go to Kancheepuram, we will come without seeing Goddess Kamakshi and not without seeing Periyava (who is Sakshat Lord Shiva).
