Experiences with Maha Periyava: Sri Maha Periyava’s Bhiksha

When we were in Thanjavur, one day early in the morning Sri Maha Periyava appeared in my dream and asked, “Will you get me badam (almond) kernels?”

At the very next opportunity, we bought almonds and went to Orikkai village near Kanchipuram. It was only then that Sri Maha Periyava had given up anna bhiksha and was taking only nel pori (puffed paddy grains). We stood confused as to whom we could entrust the almonds in order that they might reach Periyava’s bhiksha.

A lady took us to ugranam (groceries) Gopala Iyer. Since he was anxiously searching for something at that time, he said, “Please don’t disturb me now. It is time for Periyava’s bhiksha.” When we asked him, “What are you searching for? Anything we could buy?” He started lamenting, “Where would you get badam kernels here? Ants have eaten all the stock of almonds in a single night. If the Manager comes to know of it, he will get angry with me. Only if you go to Kanchipuram, you will get almonds. By that time Periyava’s bhiksha will be over.”

Our joy knew no bounds! We gave him the almonds we had brought. Gopala Iyer heaved a sigh of relief!

We understood that things connected with Sri Maha Periyava would go well automatically, and that those who consider themselves as the doers were only instruments in the scheme of things.
