Sri Rama Jayam – Snana Sankalpam

Sri Vedavyaasaaya Namah
Namah Paravati Pataye Hara Hara Mahadeva

We have heard in Puranas that only Muruga could wipe out Tarakasuran,  Surapadman and other Asuras.

The Shat karmas (six karmas – sandhyavandanam, snanam etc.) are very important and only these can wipe out our sins completely, Devas could only manage these Asuras but only Muruga (Shanmuga) could kill them. (Shat = six in sanskrit, it becomes Shan by Sanskrit grammar.) Similarly, other solutions may only manage our problems for a while. Permanent solution is doing the Nithya karma.

Rishis have mentioned those doing karma anusthanams need not worry about anything, problems won’t near that person and existing problems will be solved.

By doing only snanam and sandhyavandanam a person will live for a hundred years.

We are aware about Sandhyavandanam,  one more simpler and easier anushtanam is Snanam.

Many will be benefitted by snanam and sins done in numerous births is destroyed by snanam alone.

More details will be shared soon but the important things in Snanam are sankalpam before snanam and wearing a towel during snanam.

This sankalpam won’t take more than a minute. The day will become favorable when one takes sankalpam for snanam. Avoid doing sankalpam during “teethu”.

In Mahabharatam, Bhishmar mentions that a Brahmama doing snanam, sandhyavandanam and chanting Veda mantras at both twilights becomes the favourite of all Devas, Rishis and Pithrus.

Snanam done with bhagwan namas or veda mantras give excellent results but only when Sankalpam is done beforehand. Men must definitely do sankalpam before snanam. For women, sankalpam is required mainly for snanam in rivers. (for nithya snanam, it is optional.)

Sankalpam for 3rd October, 2017 – (change the tithi, day according to panchanga)

माध्याह्निक / सायं स्नान (mAdhyAhnika or sAyam snanam aham…,)

Devata or swami can be used, both are correct.

Use the name of the main deity in the temple near your home, eg : unnamulai amman sametha  arunAchaleswara swami . Living near a temple itself is maha punniyam, always use the name of the important temple in your place. You can also add (samasta) समस्त between two swamis like the names of Shiva and Vishnu temples’ main deities.

For people in the U.S., instead of जम्बूद्वीपे भारतवर्षे भरतखण्डे मेरोः दक्षिणे पार्श्वे”, say अस्मत् भारतस्य पश्चिमस्ते क्रौञ्च द्वीपे उत्तर खण्डे । (asmat bhAratasya pashcimaste kraunca dvipe uttara khande)

Slokas for snanam  (all are important slokas, any bhagwan nama or namas of punniya kshetras are to be recited during bath, doing mental recitation is better)

  1. Hope ANUSHAM IS A CREAM OF ANUSHTANAM

  2. Feeling thankfully for S nana sankalpa and also inform the mantra for SIKAI SANAM

    • Dear sir, please get the additional snana mantra for shikhai snanam, squeezing the vastram and others in person from a vaideeka who is conversant with these mantras. Only then, the potency of the mantra is truly unlocked.

      • I remember father told to shaflle vastram SEVEN Times after squeezing in water before putting for drying

  3. Made a mistake in the sankalpam, the month mentioned is not bhAdrapada, it is Ashvina.

  4. Very great to know the importance of SNANAM & ANUSHTANUM. We have to follow these two as if we protect our two eyes.

    JAYA JAYA SANKARA!
