Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara – Aacharyal’s wonderful feats continued to be told in this chapter by Sri Periyava. One important thing to note is how Adwaitham still exists (probably as a majority) whereas all the other religions that existed before Aacharyal ceased to exist now.

ஆசார்யாளின் ஆச்சரிய ஸாதனை

அதாவது அந்த எழுபத்திரண்டு மதங்களையும் இந்த தேசத்தில் வழக்கற்றுப் போகும்படியாக அந்த ஒரு மூர்த்தி செய்திருக்கிறார்! நினைத்து நினைத்து ஆச்சர்யப்படும்படியாக இப்படி ஒரு ஸாதனை செய்திருக்கிறார்! தம்முடைய ஆத்ம சக்தி, அறிவு சக்தி, வாத சக்தி ஆகியவற்றைக் கொண்டே ஒரு ஆண்டி இப்படிச் செய்திருக்கிறாரென்றால் அவர் அவதார புருஷராக இல்லாமல் வேறெப்படி இருக்க முடியும்? அதுவும் அவர் பூலோகத்தில் வாஸம் பண்ணியது முப்பத்திரண்டே வருஷங்கள்தான்!

இன்றைக்கு இந்த தேசத்திலுள்ள எல்லோருமே அவரைப் பின்பற்றும் அத்வைத ஸம்ப்ரதாயஸ்தர்கள் இல்லைதான். ராமாநுஜாசார்யார், மத்வாசார்யார், ஸ்ரீக்ருஷ்ண சைதன்யர், வல்லபாசார்யார், ஸ்ரீகண்டசார்யார், மெய்கண்டார் என்று பலர் ஏற்படுத்திய ஸம்ப்ரதாயங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களும் இருக்கிறார்கள். இருந்தாலுங்கூட, இந்த ஆசார்யர்கள் எல்லோரும் நம்முடைய ஆசார்யாளுக்குப் பிற்பாடு நூற்றாண்டுகளுக்கு அப்புறம்தான் இந்த மதங்களை ஸ்தாபித்தார்கள். இன்று அத்வைதம் தவிர இங்குள்ள மதங்களெல்லாம் ஆசார்யாளுக்குப் பிற்காலத்தில் உண்டானவையே. அதுவரை ஆசார்யாளின் மதமே தனக்கு முந்தி இருந்த அத்தனை மதங்களையும் இல்லாமல் செய்துவிட்டு, தான் மாத்திரமே கொடிகட்டிப் பறந்திருக்கிறது! பின்னால் வந்த எந்த மதமும் அதற்குப் பெரிய நஷ்டத்தை ஏற்படுத்த முடியவில்லை. எத்தனை புது மதம் வந்தாலும் ஆசார்யாளைப் பின்பற்றும் ஸம்ப்ரதாயஸ்தர்களும் நிறைய இருந்து கொண்டேதான் வந்திருக்கின்றனர். ஆசார்யாளின் ஸித்தாந்தம் முன்னாலிருந்த எல்லா மதங்களையும் இல்லாமல் செய்த மாதிரி பின்னால் வந்த எந்த ஸித்தாந்தமும் செய்யவில்லை. ராமாநுஜர் வந்ததனால் அத்வைதம் இல்லாமல் போய்விடவில்லை. அதற்கப்புறம் மத்வர் வந்ததனால் அத்வைதம், விசிஷ்சாத்வைதம் இரண்டும் இல்லை என்று ஆகவில்லை. இப்படியே ஒவ்வொரு புது மதமும் வந்த போதும் அதற்கும் மநுஷ்யர்கள் சேர்ந்தார்களென்றாலும், அதிலேயே எல்லாரும் சேர்ந்து மற்ற எந்த மதமுமே இல்லை என்று ஆகிவிடவில்லை. ஆசார்யாள் ஒருத்தர் காலத்தில்தான் அவருடைய மதத்தையே அத்தனை பேரும் ஏற்றுக் கொண்டிருந்தது. அவருக்குப் பிற்பாடும் சில நூற்றாண்டுகள்வரை அப்படித்தான் இருந்தது. அதனால்தான் அவருக்கு ‘ஜகத்குரு’ என்றும் ‘ஜகதாசார்யாள்’ என்றும் தனியானதொரு கௌரவம் ஏற்பட்டது. ‘ஜகத்குரு’ என்பது அவரொருவருக்குத்தான் உபசாரத்திற்காக உயர்த்தி வைத்துக் கொடுத்த விருதாக இல்லாமல் வாஸ்தவமான உண்மையைச் சொல்வதாக இருக்கிறது!

‘ஜகத்’ என்று சொன்னதால் தேசாந்தரங்களைப் பற்றி நினைக்க வேண்டியதில்லை. வைதிக அநுஷ்டானத்துக்குரிய கர்ம பூமியாகவுள்ள நம்முடைய தேசம்தான் ஜகத்துக்கே உயிர் மாதிரி, ஹ்ருதயம் மாதரி இருப்பதால் இது முழுதற்கும் ஆசார்யாள் என்றால் ஜகதாசார்யாள்தான். பாரத தேசம் என்று நாம் சொல்வதையே பூர்வ காலத்தில் இன்னம் விசாலமாக பரத கண்டம் என்று சொல்லி அதில் 56 தேசங்கள் — அங்கம், வங்கம், கலிங்கம் என்றெல்லாம் 56; தற்கால மாகாணங்கள் (மாநிலங்கள்) மாதிரியானவை-இருப்பதாகச் சொல்லி வந்தார்கள். அந்த ஐம்பத்தாறிலும் ஆசார்யாள் திக் விஜயம் செய்து எல்லா பரமதங்களையும் நிராகரணம் செய்து அத்வைத வேதாந்தத்தை நிலைநாட்டினாரென்றால் அதுதான் ஜகத்குருத்வம்.

Wonderful feat of Aacharyal

That is, one iconic man has managed to root out these 72 faiths from this country.  It is a feat that makes you think again and again and wonder how he achieved it.  If an ascetic could accomplish this with only his spiritual, mental, and argumentative skills, who else could he be, but an incarnate.  And the fact is, he lived just 32 years on this earth.

True, it is not that all the people in this country now are Adwaithis, following his philosophy.  There are several people belonging to other traditions or orders established by Ramanujacharya, Madhwacharya, Sri Krishna Chaithanya, Vallabhacharya, Sri Kantacharya, Meykandar, etc.  However, these Acharyas have established these schools, more than hundred years after our Aacharya’s time.  The faiths that are today, other than Adwaitha, have all come about after the times of our Aacharya.  Till then, our Aacharya’s philosophy only was reigning supreme, after having wiped out all the others which were existing before.

None of the philosophies that came about subsequently could make any dent on Adwaitha philosophy.  Even when many new religions came into being, there continued to be people in the tradition following our Aacharya.  The way the philosophy propounded by our Aacharya could obliterate the earlier existing ones, none of the new philosophies could do.  It has not happened that Adwaitha ceased to exist because Ramanuja came.  Similarly, it did not happen that Adwaitha and Visishtadwaitha ceased to exist because Madhwacharya came subsequently.  In this way, even though people joined whenever a new one came about, it did not happen that everybody started following it and the other ones ceased to exist.  Only in the days of our Aacharyal, his philosophy was accepted by all.  That situation continued for more than a few centuries after his time.  That is why, he was specially honoured with the titles ‘Jagath Guru’ and ‘JagathAacharya’ (Master of Universe and Teacher to the world).  Only in his case, ‘Jagath Guru’ was not a mere ornamental title bestowed on him for formality, but truly reflected the truth.

When we say, ‘Jagath’ one need not think of the world containing many nations.  Our country being the ‘Karma bhoomi’ (land of karma) fit to practice the Vedic principles and being the soul and heart of the entire world, when we refer to him as the master of this country, he is actually the master of the universe.

What we now call as Bharatham, in those days, was much larger, comprising of 56 kingdoms – Anga, Bangla, Kalinga, etc., like our present day states and was referred to as “Bharatha Kanda”.  If he has been able to visit all these 56 and managed to erase all the reprehensible philosophies and establish the Adwaitha Philosophy, that is called Universal leadership (Jagathguruthwam).
