இன்னதுதான் ஆசாரத்தில் வருகிறது, இன்னது இல்லை என்று சொல்ல முடியாமல், ஸகல விஷயங்களையும பற்றி இதில் [கையிலுள்ள புஸ்தகத்தில்] போட்டிருக்கிறது. சிலதைப் பார்த்தால் நவீன நாகரிக்காரர்களுக்குச் சிரிப்பாக வரும்! [புஸ்தகத்தை முன்னும் பின்னுமாகப் புரட்டிப் படித்த படியே:]

நெருப்பை வாயால் ஊதப்படாது.

புருஷன் தீபத்தை அணைக்கக் கூடாது.

பொம்மனாட்டி பூசணிக்காயை உடைக்கக் கூடாது –

நெருப்பை வாயால் ஊதினால் சாம்பலோ, கெரஸின் புகையோ லங்க்ஸுக்குள் போய்விடும் என்று முதல் ரூலுக்குக் காரணம் சொன்னால், மற்ற இரண்டுக்கும் இப்படிப்பட்ட காரணம் ஒன்றும் தெரியவில்லை. நெருப்பை வாயாலே ஊதப்படாது என்பதற்குக்கூட சாஸ்திரம் சொல்கிற காரணம், வாயால் ஊதுவதால் எச்சில் காற்று அக்கினி பகவான் மேலே பட்டு அபசாரமாகி விடும் என்பதுதான்.

[புஸ்தகத்தைப் பார்த்தபடி] இன்ன நாட்களில் தான் க்ஷௌரம் [க்ஷவரம்] பண்ணிக்கலாம்;

இன்னின்ன நாளில்தான் எண்ணெய் தேய்த்துக் கொள்ளலாம் –

இதற்கெல்லாம் “காரணம்” என்று தேடினால் ஒன்றும் கிடைக்காது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

There seems to be no restrictions on the matters that are discussed in this book of Aacharam. The modernists may laugh at some of the things stated in this book.

One should not blow at the fire.

A male should not put out a lamp.

A woman should not break a pumpkin.

One can justify the first rule saying that when a person blows at a fire, the ashes or kerosene smoke may get into the lungs but no such reason can be found for the other two rules. The scriptures state that the saliva ridden breath should not fall upon the Agni or fire and hence blowing out the fire is anacharam.

Shaving should be done only on certain days.

Oil bath should be had only on certain days.
