மந்திர ஜலத்தைப் புரோக்ஷித்துக் கொள்கிறோம். தலையோடு கால் விட்டுக் கொள்ளாமல் அதை விரலால்தான் தெளித்துக் கொள்கிறோம். “ஆபோ ஹிஷ்டா” என்று ஸந்த்யா வந்தனத்தின்போது, அதாவது முக்கிய ஸ்நானமாக நன்றாகக் குளித்துவிட்டே செய்கிற ஸந்த்யாவந்தனத்தின்போது, இப்படி மந்திரஜல ப்ரோக்ஷணமும் செய்து கொள்கிறோம். பூஜை, ஹோமம், யாகம் முதலானவற்றிலும் கலசம் வைத்து அதிலுள்ள ஜலத்தை அபிமந்திரித்துக் கடைசியில் வாத்தியார் [புரோஹிதர்] தர்ப்பைக் கட்டால் அதை எல்லாருக்கும் தெளிக்கிறார். இதுவும் ஐந்து ஸ்நானங்களில் ஒன்று. இதற்கு ‘ப்ராஹ்மம்’ என்று பெயர். “ப்ரம்மம்” என்றால் வேதம், வேத மந்திரம் என்பது ஒரு அர்த்தம். அதனால் அபிமந்திரிக்கப்பட்ட தீர்த்தப் புரோக்ஷணத்துக்கு “ப்ராஹ்ம ஸ்நானம்” என்று பெயர் கொடுத்திருக்கிறது. மந்திரம் சொல்லக் கூடாதவர்களுக்கு பகவந்நாமா இருக்கிறது என்று முன்னேயே சொன்னேன். நாமமெல்லாமே மந்திரந்தான். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

We sprinkle over ourselves with holy water. We do not wash ourselves with it, but sprinkle it with our fingers. Even during Sandhyavandanam which is performed after having a complete bath, this ‘Aaphohishtaa’ is done, by sprinkling the water sanctified by the Vedic chants. During Poojas, Homams, and Yagams a holy vessel is kept filled with water and is purified by the Vedic chants. At the end of the ritual, the Purohit sprinkles the water with a bunch of Dharba grass on everyone present. This is called ‘Braahmam’. The word ‘Braahmam’ also means the Vedas and the Vedic chants.  So the Snaanam performed with water purified by the Vedic chants is called ‘Braahma Snaanam’. For those who are not allowed to chant the mantras, ‘Bhagawan Naamaa’ (divine names of the God) are there.  Bhagawan Naamaa is nothing but mantra. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal
