வர்ணதர்மம், ஆச்ரம தர்மம், ஆபத் தர்மம், யாத்ரா தர்மம் என்று வித்யாஸமாக இருப்பதைப் போலவே பிரதேசத்தைப் பொருத்தும் கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சம் வித்யாஸமாகப் போக சாஸ்திரம் இடம் கொடுத்திருக்கிறது. சீதோஷ்ணத்தில் இருக்கும் வித்யாஸத்துக்கும் (‘ஹிமாலயன் ரீஜ’னுக்கும் ராஜஸ்தான் பாலைவனத்துக்கும் எத்தனை வித்யாஸம்?), இந்தப் பெரிய தேசத்தில் ஒவ்வொரு பிரதேசத்தில் வெவ்வேறு நூற்றாண்டுகளில் வந்து மோதின அந்நிய தேசக் கலாசாரத்தின் செல்வாக்குக்குக் கொஞ்சம் இடம் கொடுத்தும் பிராந்திய ரீதியில் ஆசார அநுஷ்டானங்களில் சில வித்யாஸங்கள் ஏற்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. இதை தேசாசாரம் என்கிறோம். Similar to the fact that there are Varna dharmam, Ashrama dharmam, Abath dharmam, and Yatra dharmam, our sastras have also accommodated changes to the rules of conduct according to the exigencies of the different regions of the country. Keeping in mind the climatic differences (after all there is a vast difference between the climates of the Himalayan region and the desert of Rajsthan) and influence of foreign cultural invasion over the centuries, changes have been made in the rules of Aacharam in certain regions. This is called Desaachaaram.
