லக்ஷ்ய நிலையை எல்லோருக்கும் நடைமுறையாக வைப்பதில் இரண்டாவது தோஷம் என்னவென்றால், தாங்கள் மதத்தின் கொள்கைக்கு விரோதமாகப் பண்ணுகிறோமென்று இருக்கக் கூடாது என்பதற்காக, இப்படி விரோதமாகப் போகிறவர்கள் மூலக்கொள்கையையே தங்களுக்கு ஸாதகமாகத் திரித்து அர்த்தம் பண்ணுவது! “நீங்கள் எப்படி மாம்ஸம் சாப்பிடலாம்?” என்று பௌத்தர்களிடம் ஹிந்துக்கள் கேட்டபோது அவர்கள் தங்களுடைய மதக்கொள்கையையே திரித்து, “பிராணிக்கு நாங்கள் நேராக ஹானி செய்யக் கூடாது என்பதுதான் எங்களுடைய புத்தர் சொல்லும் அஹிம்ஸா தர்மம். நாங்கள் ஹானி உண்டாக்காமலே வேறெவனோ கசாப்புக்கடைக்காரன் விற்பதை நாங்கள் சாப்பிடுவதில் அஹிம்ஸைக்கு தோஷமில்லை”என்று சொல்வதுண்டாம். இப்படிப் பலபேர் சொல்லிச் சொல்லி ஒரு மதத்தின் மூலக் கொள்கைக்கு விரோதமாகப் பண்ணுவதே அதன் கொள்கையாகப் பிற்பாடு ஆகிவிடுகிறது; அதாவது மதத்தின் ரூபமே திரிந்து போகிறது. இது எல்லாவற்றையும்விடப் பெரிய தோஷம். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

The second lapse which occurs when the ideal is made compulsory to everyone is that the persons whose actions are contrary to the basic tenets of the religion, try to justify themselves by misinterpreting or distorting those very basic principles. When some Hindus questioned the Buddhists as to how they were consuming meat, the former, I believe used to answer that the Buddha opposed violence against the animals only when it was direct and there was nothing wrong in consuming the meat sold by the butcher.  When many persons thus start misinterpreting the religion and violate its basic tenets, then after some time, this violation comes to be accepted as the regular principle itself.
