அதிகார பேதப்படி நாலு வர்ணத்தையும் நாலு ஆச்ரமத்தையும் ஒட்டி ஏற்பட்டிருக்கும் வித்யாஸமான தர்மங்களைத்தான் பின்பற்ற வேண்டுமே தவிர, எல்லாருக்கும் ஒன்றுதான் தர்மம் என்று பண்ணப்படாது என்பதிலேயே நம் சாஸ்திரங்கள் உறுதியாயிருக்கின்றன. மேல் பார்வைக்கு இப்படி பண்ணின ஹிந்து சாஸ்திரகாரர்கள் கருணையில்லாதவர்கள் என்றும், எல்லோருக்கும் ஒரே தர்மத்தைச் சொன்ன புத்தர், ஜீஸஸ் போன்றவர்கள்தான் கருணையுள்ளவர்கள் என்றும் தோன்றினாலும், நடைமுறையில் பார்த்தால், அவர்கள் அத்தனை பேருக்கும் வைத்த உத்தம தர்மங்களைப் பண்ணுகிறவர்கள் நம்முடைய ஹிந்து மதத்தில்தான் கணிசமாக இருக்கிறார்களே தவிர, அவர்களுடைய சொந்த மதஸ்தர்களில் மிகப் பெரும்பாலோர் இவற்றைக் கழித்துக் கட்டியிருப்பதையே பார்க்கிறோம். பலனைப் பார்த்தால், லோகத்துக்கு உண்டான நலனைப் பார்த்தால், நம்முடைய சாஸ்திரங்களைச் செய்த ரிஷிகளையும் மநு முதலான பெரியவர்களையுந்தான்  கருணையுள்ளவர்களென்று சொல்ல வேண்டும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

Our scriptures are clear that people belonging to different communities should practice different Dharmas according to the community in which they have been born to suit the stage of life in which they happen to be and that there cannot be a universal code of conduct for everyone. At a superficial glance, the Hindus who structured such a system may seem to be heartless whereas Buddha and Jesus who prescribed a single code of conduct may seem to be merciful. But, in practice, many people in our Hindu religion follow the virtues these two had advocated whereas we find that followers of the religions these two founded seldom practice the same. If we judge by the results and the benefits that have accrued to this world, then only the Sages and founding fathers of our religion like Manu should be eulogized as merciful. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal
