கீதாதி சாஸ்திரங்களில், “மநுஷ்யனாய்ப் பிறந்தவர்கள் தத்தமது கர்மாவில் கண்ணும் கருத்துமாயிருந்தே உயர்ந்த ஸித்தியை அடைகிறார்கள். தன்னியல்பாகப் பக்குவமாகி இதைவிட உயர்ந்த தர்மத்துக்கு போக வேண்டுமேயொழிய, பிறரது தர்மம் எத்தனை உசத்தியானதாய்த் தோன்றினாலும் அபக்குவ நிலையில் அதற்குப் போவதால் ச்ரேயஸ் வந்துவிடாது. ஸ்வதர்மத்தில்தான் ச்ரேயஸ். ஸ்வதர்மத்தைப் பண்ணியே செத்துப்போனாலும்கூட அதுதான் ச்ரேயஸ்” என்றெல்லாந்தான் சொல்லியிருக்கிறது.

இப்படியாக அதிகார பேதப்படி நாலு வர்ணத்தையும் நாலு ஆச்ரமத்தையும் ஒட்டி ஏற்பட்டிருக்கும் வித்யாஸமான தர்மங்களைத்தான் பின்பற்ற வேண்டுமே தவிர, எல்லாருக்கும் ஒன்றுதான் தர்மம் என்று பண்ணப்படாது என்பதிலேயே நம் சாஸ்திரங்கள் உறுதியாயிருக்கின்றன. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

In scriptures like Srimad Bhagawad Gita (18:45, 18:47, 3:35) it has been clearly stated that human beings should scrupulously fulfill the duties allotted to them and thus reach a higher level. This involves a natural progression to a higher stage. If one attempts to follow the code of conduct or Dharma prescribed to others, however attractive it may be, while he is yet to attain the desired maturity, he will not progress or attain any honor. Honor lies in following the Dharma one is supposed to follow. Thus our scriptures are clear that people belonging to different communities should practice different Dharmas according to the community in which they have been born and to suit the stage of life in which they happen to be and that there cannot be a universal code of conduct for everyone. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal
