“எருவுக்கு தகுந்த பயிர். உயிரும் பயிர் மாதிரிதான். அதனால் ஆஹார விஷயத்தில் ரொம்ப கவனம் வேண்டும். உயிர் என்றால் சரீரம் மூச்சு விடுவது மட்டுமில்லை. மநுஷ்யனுக்கு மனஸில் உயர்வு இல்லாவிட்டால் அவன் உயிரிருந்தும் பிணம்தான். மனஸில் உயர்வுதான் ஜீவனுக்கு உயிர்நாடி” என்பெதல்லாம் ஸரிதான். ஆனால் மனஸின் உயர்வை சரீரத்தில் செலுத்தி ஸமூஹத்துக்கான பலதரப்பட்ட கார்யங்களையும் பண்ணவேண்டியிருக்கிறதே! ஒருத்தன் தர்ம ரக்ஷணத்துக்காகக் கத்தியைப் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு சண்டை போட வேண்டியிருக்கிறது. தர்மரக்ஷணை என்பது மனஸின் உயர்த்தி. அதுவே இவனுடைய கார்யத்தில் வருகிறபோது யுத்தம் என்று ஹிம்ஸை மாதிரி ஆகவேண்டியிருக்கிறது. ஆனால் இவன் ஜன ஸமூஹம் தர்மத்தில் அழிவடையாமல் காப்பாற்றுகிற உயர்ந்த நோக்கம் கொண்டவன். “க்ஷதாத் கில த்ராயதே”^* – ஜன ஸமூஹம் துஷ்டர்களால் அழியாமல் காப்பாற்றுகிறான் அல்லவா? -அதனாலேயே க்ஷத்ரியன் என்று இவனுக்குப் பெயர். இந்த உயர்ந்த நோக்கம் இவனுக்குப் பெயர். இந்த உயர்ந்த நோக்கம் இவனுக்கு இருப்பதால், இவனுக்கு யுத்தத்தில் உத்ஸாஹமும் நல்ல சரீரக் கட்டும் ஏற்படுவதற்காக மது மாம்ஸாதிகளை ஓரளவு சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டுப் போகட்டும். அது அவன் சூழ்நிலையில் அவனுக்குரிய தொழிலால் அவன் பெறுகிற ஆத்ம வளர்ச்சியைக் கெடுக்காது என்றிப்படி சாஸ்திரம் வைத்திருக்கிறது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

The fertilizer should suit the crop. The soul is also like a crop. So a person has to be extremely careful in the matter of food. To be alive is not to just breathe. If a person’s mind is not superior in nature, he is a dead person even if he continues to breathe. It is the nobility of the mind that suffuses a person with life force. These statements are true indeed. But the force of the mind has to be channelized through the body to perform various tasks for the society. One person has to fight with a sword to protect Dharma. Protection of Dharma arises out of the superiority of the mind. But when it is practically applied, this person has to fight a war, an act of violence. But he is motivated by the noble intention of protecting Dharma, to prevent destruction of the society. He ensures that the society is not destroyed by evil doers. Hence he is called a Kshatriya (Kshataat Kila Traayate). Because he cherishes this noble intention in his heart, he is permitted to consume non-vegetarian food and wine within limits to give him physical strength and enthusiasm.
