கலியுகம்: தொடக்க காலத்திலும் பிற்காலத்திலும்

க்ருஷ்ணர் பரமபதாரோஹணம் செய்வதற்குக் கொஞ்சம் முந்தியே கலியுகம் பிறந்து விட்டது. ஆனாலும் உடனேயே லோகம் முழுக்கக் கெட்டு விழுந்துவிடாமல் பகவான் செய்திருந்தவை கை கொடுத்து, முட்டுக் கொடுத்து, காப்பாற்றிக் தூக்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தன. சக்தி குறைந்த கலிகால மநுஷ்யர்களின் அநுஷ்டானத்துக்கு இயலும் வகையில் அம்சாவதாரமான வேதவ்யாஸ பகவான் வேதங்களைப் பிரித்துக் கொடுத்தார். அதனாலேயே-அதன் கர்ம காண்ட, ஞான காண்ட, விதிகளாலேயே-ப்ரவ்ருத்தி நிவ்ருத்தி மார்க்கங்கள் அடிபட்டுப் போகாமல் காப்பாற்றிக் கொடுத்தார். அதோடு, உபநிஷத்துக்கள் எல்லாவற்றிலுமாகப் பரந்து விரிந்து சிதறிக் கிடக்கும் அத்யாத்ம தத்வங்களை ஸாரமாகத் திரட்டி ‘ப்ரஹ்ம ஸூத்ரம்’ என்று, ஒரு ஸூத்ரத்தில் (கயிற்றில்) மணிகளைக் கோத்துக் கொடுப்பது போல, உலகத்துக்குத் தந்து ஞான மார்க்கத்துக்கு, நிவ்ருத்தி தர்மத்துக்கு, விசேஷ உபகாரம் செய்தார். ஸர்வ ஜனங்களின் ஆத்மிக மேம்பாட்டுக்காக பதினெட்டுப் புராணங்களையும் அநுக்ரஹித்து பக்தி மார்க்கத்திற்கும் போஷாக்குத் தந்தார். இதனாலெல்லாம் கலி பிறந்தும் இரண்டாயிரம், இரண்டாயிரத்து ஐநூறு வருஷம் வரைக்கும் ஜனங்கள் பெரும்பாலும் நல்ல வழியிலேயே போய்க் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

கலி பிறந்தது கி.மு. 3102-ல் என்று திட்டமாகக் கணக்கு இருக்கிறது. ப்ரதி தினமும் வைதிக கர்மாவில் செய்து கொள்ளும் ஸங்கல்பத்தில் பிரஹ்மாவின் ஆயுஸில் எத்தனாவது வருஷம் (வயஸு) என்பதிலிருந்து, அதிலே எந்த கல்பம், அந்தக் கல்பத்தில் எந்த மன்வந்தரம், அந்த மன்வந்தரத்தில் எந்த சதுர்யுக ‘ஸைகிளி’ல் எந்த யுகத்தில் எத்தனாவது வருஷம், அந்த வருஷத்தில் எந்த அயனம், ரிது, மாஸம், பக்ஷம், திதி என்கிற வரைக்கும் ஆதியிலிருந்து up-to-date -ஆக அன்றைய தினத்தைச் சொல்லி வருவதால் கலியுகம் எப்போது ஆரம்பித்தது என்று ஸந்தேஹத்துக்கு இடமில்லாமல் தெரிகிறது. இதிலேதான் சுமார் இரண்டாயிரம் வருஷத்துக்கு மேல், அதாவது இன்றைக்கு சுமார் 2500 வருஷத்துக்கு முந்தி வரை லோகம் ஓரளவு நல்ல வழியிலேயே ஓடிக் கொண்டிருந்தது.*

ஆனாலும் பகவான் விளையாட்டில் யுக தர்மம், கலி புருஷனுக்கு அதிகாரம் கொடுப்பது என்று ஏற்பட்டிருந்ததால் அப்புறம் அவனுடைய சேஷ்டை ஜாஸ்தியாகத் தொடங்கியது.

* ஸ்ரீ சங்கரர் சுமார் 2500 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் வாழ்ந்தார் என்ற கருத்தில் இவ்வாறு அவரது அவதார காலத்தைக் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்கள். விவரம் “ஸ்ரீ சங்கரரின் கால நிர்ணயம்” என்ற பிரிவில் காண்க.

Kali Yuga Then & Now

Just a little before ascension of Krishna to his heavenly abode, Kali Yuga had started.  Instead of the entire world degenerating immediately, the deeds of the Lord were supporting, saving, and propping it up.  To facilitate observance by the weak human beings in the Kali Yuga, Veda Vyasa, the part incarnation of the Lord, sub-divided the Vedas and gave it to them. And so, with the help of the rules mentioned in Karma Kanda (section on karma) and Gnana Kanda (section on true knowledge), He protected the Pravruthi-Nivruthi modes from being adversely affected.  In addition, He also gathered the philosophies on the transcendental relationship between self and Supreme, which were found, spread out in various Upanishads and gave in a nutshell, in the form of “Brahma Sutra”, like collecting the beads and joining them in a thread (sutra) and did a significant service to the world and to the path of True knowledge and Nivruthi dharma.  For the sake of spiritual development of all the people, He gave the 18 Puranas and strengthened the Bhakthi path.  Because of all these, even after 2000 to 2500 years from the advent of Kali Yuga, people were generally going in the right direction*.

There is a precise calculation which says that Kaliyuga started in 3102 B.C.  As every day, in the sankalp we make while doing Vedic karma, we are mentioning various details, starting from the year in which we are in Brahma’s life (age), which Kalpa within that, which manvantram in that, which Chathur Yuga cycle, which yuga and in which year in that, which ayanam in that year, which Ruthu, Month, Paksha, Thithhi, etc., that is from beginning till up to date, it is precisely known which year was Kali Yuga born, without a doubt.  That is why, it can be said that for more than 2000 years, i.e., about 2500 years before today, the world was, more or less going in the right path.  However, in the pastimes of the Supreme Lord, there was provision for Yuga Dharma, giving authority to Kali Purusha etc., his mischief began to increase subsequently.
