ஸைகலாஜிகலாக அநேக சாஸ்திர விதிகளை ‘அப்ரீஷியேட்’ பண்ணலாம் என்கிறார்கள். பால், நெய், தயிர், சாணம், மூத்திரம் எல்லாவற்றாலும் நலன் விளைவிக்கும் பசுவை மாதாவாக பாவிப்பது psychologically satisfying [மனோதத்வப்படி திருப்தி தருவது] என்கிறார்கள். அதுவும் வாஸ்தவந்தான். ஆனால் பசுவின் divinity [தெய்வத்தன்மை] ‘ஸைகாலஜி’க்கு அப்பாற்பட்ட விஷயம். இந்த ‘டிவினிடி’க்காகத்தான் அதற்கு முக்யமாகப் பூஜை. மற்ற தேசங்களில் உள்ளவர்கள் மாதிரி பால், நெய், தயிர் இவற்றின் பிரயோஜனத்தைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டது மட்டுமின்றி நம் பூர்விகர்கள் சாணி, பசு மூத்திரம் இவற்றின் சுத்தி செய்யும் சக்தியையும் தெரிந்து கொண்ட பெருமை ஒரு பக்கமிருக்கட்டும். ஆனால் இந்த ஐந்தையும் ‘பஞ்சகவ்யம்’ (‘கோ’ என்றால் பசு. ‘கவ்யம்’ என்றால் பசு ஸம்பந்தமுள்ளது. ‘பஞ்ச கவ்யம்’ என்பது பசு ஸம்பந்தப்பட்ட ஐந்து) என்று சேர்த்து ஒருத்தரைச் சாப்பிடச் சொல்லி அவரை சாப்பிடச் சொல்லி அவரை சுத்தி பண்ணுகிறபோது அது சரீர சுத்திக்காக (physical purity -க்காக) மட்டுமில்லை; ஆத்மசுத்திக்காகவே! பாபத்தைப் போக்கிப் புண்யத்தை உண்டு பண்ணுகிற சக்தியும் பஞ்ச கவ்யத்துக்கு இருக்கிறது. மந்த்ர பூர்வமாக அதை ப்ராசனம் பண்ணுவதால் [உட்கொள்வதால்] இந்த சக்தி இன்னம் விருத்தியாகிறது.
“புண்யாஹ வாசனம்” என்று புண்ய ஸம்பந்தப்படுத்தித் தான் பஞ்சகவ்யத்தை வைத்திருக்கிறது என்பதைக் கவனிக்க வேண்டும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

It is said that many rules of Aacharam can be appreciated for their psychological effect. It is psychologically satisfying to worship the cow as mother goddess who through her gives milk, ghee, curd, dung and urine. These bestows beneficial effects upon us. This is true. But the divinity of Gho Matha is beyond psychology. It is for this divinity that Mother Cow is worshipped. Our ancestors were not only aware of the beneficial effects of the milk, curd, and ghee like people of other countries but they also knew of the purifying effects of the dung and urine. But apart from this, all these five ingredients were mixed and the resulting Panchagavyam (Gho means cow; Gavyam means related to cow) was fed to a person to cleanse him. This cleansing is not merely for physical purity but primarily for spiritual purity. Panchagavya has the power to get rid of one’s papa (sins) and confer punnya instead. When it is consumed with the chanting of Vedic mantras, this power is enhanced.
