Asking the women to remain separate from others during menstruation is for reasons of cleanliness not only known to science but also unknown to it. This matter is related to Paapa and Punnya. It is stated that a part of the Brahmahaththi Dosha of Indra (the sin accrued from the killing of a Brahmin, Indra being the King of Heavens) is expelled as menstrual blood.
