மனஸையும் காரியத்தின்போதே ஈஸ்வரனிடம், நேராகவே அவனிடம், அல்லது அவனது சிப்பந்திகளாக, அம்சங்களாக இருக்கிற அநேக தேவதைகளிடம் கலக்கும்படிப் பண்ணத்தான் மந்த்ரங்களைக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறது. பிராத ஸ்நானத்தை இப்படி தேஹத்துக்காக மாத்திரமில்லாமல் ஆத்மார்த்தமானதாக ஆக்கிக் கொடுக்கும்போது, முதலில் அருகம் புல்லையும் கொஞ்சம் சுத்தமான ம்ருத்திகையையும் [மண்ணையும்] தலையில் வைத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். அப்போது அந்த அருகம் புல்லையும் ஈஸ்வர சக்தியின் ஒரு அம்சமான தேவதை என்று பக்தியோடு புரிந்துகொண்டு, அதை ஸ்துதித்து ‘தூர்வா ஸுக்தம்’ என்கிற மந்த்ரங்களைச் சொல்ல வேண்டும். ‘அல்பப் புல்’ என்கிறோமே அதைக்கூட ஈஸ்வராம்சம் என்று வேதமே ஸ்தோத்திரிக்கும் ஸுக்தத்தைச் சொல்ல வேண்டும். ‘மண்ணாங்கட்டி’ என்று ரொம்ப மட்டமாகச் சொல்கிறோமே, அந்த மண்ணையும் இப்படியே ஸாக்ஷாத் நாராயண பத்னியான பூப்பிராட்டியாகப் புரிந்து கொண்டு ‘ம்ருத்திகா ஸுக்தம்’ சொல்லிப் புல்லோடு தலையில் வைத்துக்கொண்டு குளிக்க ஆரம்பிக்க வேண்டும். ஸ்நானம் செய்யும்போது சொல்ல ‘அகமர்ஷண ஸுக்தம்’ என்று ஒன்று இருக்கிறது. இங்கே தேஹத்தின் ஸ்நானமே ஆத்மாவின் அழுக்கையும் அலம்பிவிட மந்திரங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. ஆத்மாவின் அழுக்கு என்பது அதன்மேல் படிந்திருக்கிற நம் பாபங்கள். ‘அகம்’ என்றால் பாபம். தேய்த்து அப்புறப்படுத்துவது ‘மர்ஷணம்’. உடம்பைத் தேய்த்து ஸ்நானம் பண்ணும்போதே இப்படிப் பாபத்தையும் தேய்த்துக் கழுவி விடுவதற்கு ‘அக மர்ஷண ஸுக்தம்’. வேத மந்திரங்கள் சொல்ல அதிகாரமில்லாதவர்கள் “கோவிந்தா கோவிந்தா!” என்று ஸ்நானம் செய்யவேண்டும். “கோவிந்தேதி ஸதா ஸ்நானம்” என்று இருக்கிறது. கோவிந்த நாமாவே ஆத்மாவுக்குப் புண்ய தீர்த்த ஸ்நானம்தான். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்
The Vedic mantras have been given only to enable the action and the mind to merge with Eswara or those Devathas, the powers subordinate to Him and representing Him. Thus when the morning bath (Praatha Kaala) is aimed not only towards physical cleanliness but also spiritual purity, a little of Arugampul (a type of grass) and clean mud should be placed on the head.  Devotedly realising that this Arugampul has also Divine aspects, ‘Durva Suktham’ should be chanted. Without dismissing the mud as just a piece of clay, it should be understood as the Mother earth, Bhoomi Piraatti, the consort of Narayana, and “Mruthika Suktham” should be chanted and water should be poured over the head with the grass and mud placed on it, as one starts bathing. There is also a slokam called ‘Akamarshana Suktham’ to be uttered while having bath. In this case, there are Vedic Mantras to ensure that the physical bath also washes away the impurities of the soul. The impurities of the soul are the sins we have done. ‘Agam’ means Paabam (sin). “Marshanam’ is to wash it away. ‘Akamarshana Suktham’ ensures that that the sins of the soul are also washed away along with the impurities of the body. Those who are not entitled to utter Vedic mantras should chant the Govinda Nama while having bath. It is said that “Govindethi Sadhaa Snaanam”.
