கிரிமினல் கேஸ்கள் அடிதடி பண்ணிக் கொலை-கொள்ளை பண்ணுவதற்காக ஜெயில் தண்டனை கொடுக்கின்றன. அடிதடி, கொலை கூடாது என்பதால் அஹிம்ஸையையும் ஆசாரத்தில் implied -ஆக [உட்கிடையாக] க் கொண்டு வந்தாகி விடுகிறது. கொள்ளை, திருட்டு எல்லாம்தான் ஸ்தேயம். இவற்றைச் செய்யாதிருப்பது அஸ்தேயம். பெண்களை மானபங்கப்படுத்துவது, விபசாரம் முதலானவையும் ஸிவிலாகவோ, கிரிமினலாகவோ குற்றங்களில் வருவதால், ஜெயிலுக்குப் போகக் கூடாது என்ற ஆசாரவிதியே ஐந்தாவது ஸாமான்ய தர்மமான இந்திரிய நிக்ரஹத்தையும் வலியுறுத்துவதாக ஆகிவிடுகிறது. இதுவும் தவிர [இந்திரிய] ஒழுக்கங்கெட்டவர் எந்த சாஸ்திர கர்மாவுக்குமே அனர்ஹர் [தகுதியில்லாதவர்] என்று வியக்தமாகவே அவர்களை ஆசார முறையானது ஒதுக்கி வைத்திருக்கிறது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்
Criminal cases result in punishment for assault, robbery, and murder. Because Aacharam forbids assault or murder it is clear that non-violence is also implied in Aacharam. Robbery and theft are Stheyam. Not committing such acts is Astheyam – honesty. Since rape and prostitution are also either criminal or civil offences the rule of Aacharam that one should not be imprisoned also emphasizes the fifth common virtue of control of senses.
