As always, there was a large crowd in Sri Matam, to have the dharshan of Mahaperiyava. There was a famous auditor family, from Chennai, who were also waiting in line. Before Mahaperiyava, everyone is equal. So, the auditor family was also waiting for their turn, in the long line-up.
Finally, the auditor family’s turn came. He prostrated in front of Mahaperiyava. A lady, who had come along with them, had a small baby in her hand. She made the baby lie down on a towel, in front of Mahaperiyava, and she prostrated to Mahaperiyava too.
The auditor got up after doing his Namaskaram and told Mahaperiyava, “Periyava, this is my grandson. He is our first heir in our family. He is 3 months old now. We were waiting for Periyava to come back from yatra and give him a name. We heard that you had returned back to Matam after your yatra. We immediately came here to have your dharshan. Please give him a name and do Namakaranam for him, Periyava.”
Mahaperiyava looked at the baby for few moments. It was Sankatahara Chathurthi that day and some pundits were chanting Vedic hymns for Lord Ganapathy. The baby was slowly turning its head towards the side, from where the sound of hymns was coming.
Acharya said, “Name the baby Ganapathy Subramanyan.”
Auditor was very delighted to hear this and he said, “We are very happy, Periyava. We will always remember that this boy had his Namakaranam on a Chathurthi day, because of his name Ganapathy Subramanyan. Also, Subramanyan represents our Kula Deivam Pazhani Andavan, so we are extremely happy.” After prostrating again to Mahaperiyava, the auditor took the baby boy and after receiving prasadham from Periyava, started to leave.
Mahaperiyava stopped him and said, “Wait for a minute. The baby was not named Ganapathy Subramanyan, only because it’s Sankatahara Chathurti today. Once Ganapathy comes, Subramanyan has to follow. Once elder brother comes, younger brother has to follow! That’s why I have given the name Ganapathy Subramanyan. Do you understand?” Mahaperiyava blessed the family again.
Two months were gone. The same auditor, along with his wife, 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, the baby Ganapathy Subramanyam came to have dharshan of Mahaperiyava.
The auditor’s body was shaking when he came and stood in front of Periyava. He was emotional.
“Periyava, you are Sarveshwaran Himself! When I came last time, I just requested Periyava to name my grandson. There was a bigger sorrow that was stressing me. I have 3 sons. My eldest son did not have any children even after 6 or 7 years of marriage. My 2nd son, had this baby boy in a year after marriage. I was feeling very sad since my eldest son did not have any children.”
“Last time, Periyava mentioned that, Ganapathy has come, Subramanyan will follow. Now, my eldest daughter-in-law is also pregnant. She is 3 months into pregnancy and doctors have said the baby is doing fine.”
“We had gone to so many temples and offered many prayers at all temples. Even that day, when we came to Sri Matam with my grandson, I was thinking of praying to Periyava about this issue. But, since, we had come for Namakaranam for my 2nd son’s baby, I did not want to discuss about the problem of my other son. But, Periyava, you already knew everything and blessed us.”
“Only Parameshwaran knows when a woman will get conceived. I see you as Sakshaath Parameshwaran!” He prostrated in front of Periyava again.
Sri Periyava remained calm and humble as if saying, ‘I have nothing to do with this. Everything is Chandramouleeshawarar’s Anugraham”.
