சரணாகதி

பெரியவா சரணம் !!!

பெரியவாளோட வலதுகாலில் எப்படியோ சின்னக் காயம் உண்டாகி லேசான ரத்தக் கசிவு இருந்தது. அதில் ஒரு சொட்டு ரத்தம் மாதுளைமுத்துப் போல் இருந்தது.

பெரியவாளோ அதைப் பற்றிய சிந்தனையே இல்லாமல், சுற்றி இருந்தவர்களிடம் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

ஒரு எறும்பு வந்தது. அந்த காயத்தின் மேல் ஊர்ந்தது. உடனே சங்கேத பாஷை மூலம் செய்தி அனுப்பி, கொஞ்ச நேரத்தில் ஒரு படையே சொந்த பந்தங்களோடு பெரியவாளுடைய சரணத்தில் இருந்த ரத்தக் கசிவை சுவை பார்த்தன.

“எறும்புகளை தட்டி விடுங்கோ பெரியவா” என்று சொல்ல முடியுமா? சுற்றி இருந்த சிஷ்யர்களுக்கோ ஒரே அவஸ்தை!

அப்போது பெரியவாளிடம் கொஞ்சம் உரிமை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு பேசக் கூடிய ஒரு பக்தர் வந்தார். உடனே அவரிடம் ரகசியமாக எறும்பைக் காட்டினார்கள் சிஷ்யர்கள்.

“பெரியவா கால்ல எறும்பு மொய்க்கறதே?” என்று பணிவோடு கூறினார் பக்தர்.
ஒரு செகண்ட் அருள் நிறைந்த பார்வை பார்த்தார் பெரியவா. “விபீஷணன் ராமசந்த்ரமூர்த்தியை சரணாகதி பண்ணினான்ன்னு படிக்கறோம். வாயால “சரணாகதி” ன்னு சொன்னான். ஆனா, ராமனோட பாதங்களை இறுகக் கட்டிக்கலை. அப்பிடியிருந்தும் ராமன் ரொம்ப இறக்கப்பட்டு, விபீஷணனுக்கு அடைக்கலம் குடுத்தான்.”

“இப்போ இந்த ராமாயணம் எதுக்கு?” சிஷ்யர்களின் சந்தேகத்துக்கு விளக்கம் வந்தது.

“இந்த எறும்புகளோ, என் காலையே கெட்டியாப் பிடிச்சிண்டிருக்கு! அதுகள் என்ன சொல்லறதுன்னு கேக்காம, ஒதறி விட்டா, அது ஞாயமா? சொல்லுங்கோ” – ராமனை விட பலபடிகள் உயர்ந்து நின்றார் பெரியவா!

“உடல் வேறு ஆன்மா வேறு” என்பதை கண்கூடாக சிஷ்யர்களுக்கு நிரூபித்தார்.
ரத்த சுவைக்காக அவை அவருடைய பாதங்களில் ஊர்ந்ததையே ஒரு வ்யாஜமாகக் கொண்டு, “சரணாகதி” என்று ஏற்றுக் கொண்ட கருணை பெரியவாளைத் தவிர யாருக்கு வரும்?

நம் மேல் ஒரு எறும்பு ஊறினால் கூட, அடுத்த செகண்ட் அது உருத் தெரியாமல் நசுங்கி விடும்.

பெரியவாள் வாழும் காலத்திலே நாமும் வழ்கிறோம் என்பதுதான் எத்தனை பெரிய பாக்யம் !

அவரைப் பார்ப்பதற்கும் அவரது அருள் வாக்கைக் கேட்பதற்கும் என்ன தவம் செய்தோமோ?

காமகோடி தரிசனம் காணக்காணப் புண்ணியம்.

Sharanagathy!

Sri Periyava Charanam

There was a small wound in Periyava’s right leg with very little blood oozing from it.  The blood had clotted and looked like a small pomegranate seed.  But this did not bother Periyava and as usual, he was talking to the devotees around him.

An ant had slowly crawled on the wound.  It looked as though other ants received message from this ant.  Soon a battalion of ants followed and all of them were tasting the blood on the wound.

His disciples noticed this and felt like telling Periyava “please shake off the ants” but due to respect, they could not say anything and were worried.

At that time, came in a devotee who was close to Periyava.  Immediately the disciples showed him secretly about the ants in Periyava’s wound.

“Periyava! The ants are infesting in the leg wound” said the devotee respectfully.

For a second, Periyava saw that gracefully.  Then he said “we all have read that Vibishana had surrendered to Sri Ramachandramurthy in Ramayana.  He just said verbally “I surrender” and did not fall at his feet.  Even then Sri Rama offered refuge to him.”

The disciples started wondering as to why Periyava is talking about Ramayana, that too about Vibishana Saranagathi episode.  Soon their doubts were cleared by Periyava.

“These ants are holding on to my leg very strongly.  Is it right on my part to shake them off without listening to them? Tell me” said Periyava, the Karunyamurthi.

HH clearly demonstrated to the disciples that body is different from the atma.

Though the ants were infesting his legs for the taste of blood, he took that itself as a token of surrender.  Who else but Periyava can be so kind and gracious even to minute creatures?

The moment an ant crawls on our body, it is crushed immediately and it is human nature.

Isn’t it our good fortune that we are living in the same era as Periyava whose graceful looks are more than enough for the devotees?

We are indeed blessed to see him and listen to his speech which is full of grace.
