Coming Soon…The ‘GREAT GRAND’ Sri Sankara Charitham by Maha Periyava!

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara,

Starting this very auspicious Sri Sankara Jayanthi, with the benign blessings and grace of HH we will start posting the ‘GREAT GRAND SRI SANKARA CHARITHAM’ by Maha Periyava from Deivathin Kural Vol 5. I’m sure many of us including Adiyen wants to read the Divya Charitham of our Bhagawath Padhaal on a consistent basis but do not find time to do so. Maha Periyava is Sakshaath Sri Bhagawad Padhaal himself as subtly revealed by HH himself on quite a few occasions. As you are all aware, Parameswara incarnated as Sri Sankara for the revival of Sanatana Dharma. Without Bhagawath Padhaal there is no Hindu Dharma today which has been agreed and acknowledged by even others sects of our Dharma. Before Bhagawad Padhaal’s Avatara there were 72 religions in Bharatha Desam, most of which were very crude and against the core principles of Sanatana Dharma. It took Bhagawad Padhaal only 32 years not only to vanquish those religions but also establish ‘Shan Matha’ in line with Vedic principles; authored countless number of Bashyams, Bhakthi Stothrams & Granthams, debated with scholars all over Bharatham and constituted Adwaitha (non-dualism) as the ultimate siddantha, and covered the entire Bharatha Desa (yatra) by foot thrice. All within mere 32 human years….. These points have been eulogized in awe by Maha Periyava many a times whose Avataram himself can be drawn in parallel with Sri Sankara on the revival of Veda Rakshanam.

Sri Periyava was kind enough to bless this initiative with more gloss, color, and appeal. Shri ST Ravikumar, our sathsang seva volunteer have been working heads down on translating the chapters for the past year or so with multiple iterations of review and fine tuning. Smt. Sowmya Murali, one of the rock star artists of our blog has been doing the same for the last few months with all her spell binding sketches, running through her work with me for feedback, improvements, etc. Both them have exclusively dedicated a part of their lives for this project and I’m sure you will realize their efforts when the chapters are posted. Let us all pray to Sri Periyava to shower his Karunyam on their sincere efforts. Posted above is Sowmya’s first drawing on this ultimate subject. With all the beautiful sketches and translation, if HE wills this may come out as an e-book which can be dedicated at the lotus of our Periyava’s. Very long way to go for that though 🙂

From whatever little reading I did on Sri Sankara Charitham, I realized one thing. Nothing pleases Maha Periyava more than following Bhagawath Padhaal’s teachings. This divya charitham is very extensive (close to 1000 pages spread over 200 chapters), addressing many aspects, very profound including upadesams for leading our daily lives. Depending on the size and content, I hope to post one or two chapters every week. Let’s read these chapters, contemplate, follow as much possible especially Veda Rakshanam. Also, considering sharing these gems in social media using the buttons at the bottom of the post.
