புதுச் சீர்திருத்தக்காரர்கள் பழசில் நூற்றுக்குத் தொண்ணூறைத் தூக்கிப் போட்டுவிட வேண்டுமென்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் ஸமீப நூற்றுண்டுகளுக்கு முன் வந்த வெவ்வேறு ஸம்பிரதாய ஆசார்யர்களும் கொஞ்சம் மாறுபாடாகப் போயிருந்தாலும் ஆதியிலிருந்ததில் நூற்றுக்குத் தொண்ணூறை ஒப்புக் கொண்டு, தங்களை அநுஸரிப்பவர்கள் தொடர்ந்து அநுஷ்டிக்கும்படிச் செய்திருக்கிறார்கள். முக்யமாக, வைதிகமான நித்ய கர்மாநுஷ்டானங்களை அப்படியே ஏற்றுக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். ஸநாதன தர்மத்துக்கு முதுகெலும்பாக உள்ள வர்ணாச்ரம விபாகங்களை, அதனால் ஏற்பட்ட அதிகார பேதத்தை இவர்களெல்லாரும் ஒப்புக் கொண்டேயிருக்கிறார்கள். இதிலேகூடச் சிலபேர் சற்று ‘ரிஃபார்ம்’ மனப்போக்கு காட்டியிருக்கிறார்களென்றாலுங்கூட, தனி மநுஷ்யன் ஒருத்தன் பிரேமையினாலும் நைச்யத்தாலும் ஸம பாவனையாலும் வித்யாஸம் பார்க்காமலிருப்பதைத் தான் ஆதரித்திருக்கிறார்களே தவிர, ஸமூஹத்திலேயே இப்படிப்பட்ட பிரிவுகள் இருக்கக்கூடாது என்று எடுத்துப் போட்டுவிடவில்லை என்பதை கவனிக்க வேண்டும். தங்களுக்கு முற்பட்ட சாஸ்திரத்தில் ஏன் கூடுதல் குறைச்சல் பண்ணினார்களென்றால், அந்தந்தக் காலத்தில் வேறே சிலபேர் இதற்கு எதிர்த்திசையில் ரொம்ப தூரம் பூர்வ சாஸ்திரத்திரத்துக்கு விரோதமாக இன்னொரு விதமாகப் போயிருக்கலாம். அந்தச் சூழ்நிலையில் மறுதிசையில் கொஞ்சம் கூடுதலாகவே போனால்தான் தாக்குப் பிடித்து நிற்க முடியும் என்று [இந்த ஆசார்யர்கள்] இப்படிச் செய்திருக்கலாம். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

The new reformers want to give up ninety percent of the ancient traditions. But the reformers who appeared on the scene before the recent centuries deviated a little from the ancient traditions but accepted ninety percent of them and induced their followers to follow the same. They had accepted the daily rituals (Nithya Karmas) prescribed by the Vedas. All of them had acknowledged the traditional divisions (Varnashrama Dharma) of the society based on the kind of role each person performed, which formed the backbone of the society. Though some of them had shown a bit of reformist tendencies in this matter, it was essentially a support of the attitude of an individual who does not make any distinction among the members of the society because of his innate love and compassion. It should be noted that they had not declared that there should not be any such social divisions. The reason they made some changes in the implementation of the ancient scriptures might be due to the fact that some other persons could have deviated in some extremely opposite direction.
