New satsang in Bangalore

Periyava Kamakshi.jpg

I have said this 1000 times – yet I am going to say it again…As an admin of this blog, nothing more makes me happier than hearing from someone that they were inspired by Mahaperiyava’s articles/teachings and started following His upadesams.

Yesterday, I got an email from Sri Sivaramakrishnan of Bangalore. The email itself is self-explanatory.

Dear Mr Mahesh
I’m a regular reader of your blog since couple of years and an ardent devotee of Mahaperiyava like many of us in the blog.
I appreciate your sincere efforts to create a blog for spreading the teachings of Mahaperiyava & lead our life based on the teachings of our Sathguru.
Infact, I drew inspiration from one of your suggestion of forming a like minded group for doing the Sahasra Gayathri Japam and had started the same in my office (working in Mphasis, Bangalore). Initially, I started with 2 people (Self + one more colleague of mine), but gradually this group has expanded to 20 people in the last 1+ year  (all are office colleagues).
Similarly taking cue from the Ekadasi reminders, I have started observing Ekadasi fasting in the last 1 year. Mahaperiyava should bestow his grace on our group & give us determination & strength to continue this.
I am eager to offer my services for the successful running of the blog. Let me know for any opportunities to offer my services.
JAYA JAYA SHANKARA ! HARA HARA SHANKARA !!

Thank you Sri Sivaramakrishnan…My salute to you for not just following these but also inspiring others to do….I remember when Hari Ramasubbu and myself started this Sunday Sahasra Gayathri group….We started off with 5-6 of us and subsequently it grew to a larger number. We had our best days and we have also seen downtimes….These are quite common and one thing that we must remember is to have a firm determination to keep motivating others when we see too much of downtime so that they pick up the momentum…. I am sure Kanchi Acharyas will bless all of your satsang members and hoping to see this satsang expanding in size as well.
I am posting this here so that others could get motivated from what Sivaramakrishnan is doing….
Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara!

  1. Nice I initiative by Mr Shiva Ramakrishna Regards.

  2. Keep IT going Sivaraman ! May Mahaperiava shower His blessings on your group to continue this for ever.

  3. Following sastric principles in life is the way to bring auspicious things to yourself and the world. Everything else just glitters like gold. Mahaperiyava will surely shower his blessings on you and your group.

  4. I am doing “Gayathri Japam” daily two times morning and evening along with Sandhyavandanam. You have created “Sahasra Gayathri Japam” in your office premises (according to your write-up). I am confused whether Gayathri Japam can be performed without mantra on Savitri devi, Niyasa and after performing japam Gayathri Upasthana mantra to be done etc etc. Benefits on Japam, one will not get neglecting all these norms. This is what, one Vaideka brahmin doing all vaideeka karmas told. He told extra numbers of Gayathri japam can be performed after doing gayathri meditation mantra, Aayathu …., Niyasa etc only in the morning and not afterwards. All those things should be clarified with a person (Ganabadigal) who has completed Veda Adhyayanam etc. Doing Gayathri mantra alone without doing Sandhyavandanam will not yield any results. This is also expressed by one ganabadigal only. I am working in Kuwait doing Sandhyavandanam and Sayam Santhya only, along with Gayathri Mantra. It means I am not doing Madhyanikam on working days. Also on Sandhyavandanam, you elaborately sent 2 articles which I have read. Now main question is: how your members of Sahasra Gayathri japam doing this good things. If you write all these things, so many persons can start like this associations. Sorry please ignore this, if i have written anything which caused pains in some like minded persons R. Ramabadran

    • Ramabadran Sir – I think you have misunderstood the context. The members of the Sahasra Gayathri group are from my office. However, we will do the Sandhya Vandanam & Sahasra Gayathri Japam at our respective homes only with proper procedures as prescribed for their respective sects . Initially we thought of doing the Sahasra Gayathri Japam at a common place on a particular day in a week, however, thought that these constraints would only make the members to discontinue this practice very quickly. Hence we are doing the Sahasra Gayathri Japam at our respective homes on any day in a week convenient to us. Just to motivate people we track the counts of the Sahasra Gayathri Japam that each member has completed in an excel spreadsheet and will circulate the progress to the members of the Group every week. This has certainly developed healthy atmosphere & motivation to continue the Japams irrespective of our various personal commitments that we have.

In short, yes you are right, the proper way of doing Sandhyavandhanam & Gayathri Japam is with Anganyasa / Karanyasa etc.

      Trust I’ve clarified your apprehensions.

  5. The following, I read, in this blog only. Everyone will be happy if the members of Sahasra Gayathri Japam follow the following principles.

    Gayathri –

You all will be aware of this great mantra. Let us view this from the Ayurvedic view. Before Gayatri, we chant Avahanam, in that Ojosi… the mantra has a deep meaning. Ojo + Asi = Ojosi, you are my Ojas. Then Sahosi…, Balamasi, Brajosi, you are my Ojas, you are my brilliance, you are my strength, you are my luster.

Now, here is the explaination only about Ojas.

Ojas is not mentioned in modern medicine, perhaps it will be too late to understand some things. Ojas is important for us and this is a secret energy booster for both the mind and body.

Ojas is said to be the substanial essence of all the seven Dhatus – Rasa, Raktha, Mamsa, Majja, Medhas, Asthi, Sandhi and Shukra (Dhatu – parts which is said to nourish the body in various ways) If you know Skanda Guru Kavacham, you can relate to these.

Ojas can be depleted due to anxiety, long travel, thinking a lot, physical exertion, hunger, anger etc. The body will become dry and causes confusions, reducing the skin’s complexion and confidence is lost.

Milk is one of the many ways to tackle this but the best way is Gayatri Devi, a person doing Gayatri Japa will have good mental and physical strength. If Ojas is restored, the person is ever successful. Brahma Tejas will increase only if ojas is consistent. That is why the Deva addressed Gayatri as ojas personified.

Do all parts of Sandhyavandanam correctly, the merit increases if done sincerely, Yagnam phalan is gained. Also, all the sins are destroyed and any Navagraha Dosha won’t affect the person doing the morning and evening Sandhi as we do Navagraha Deva Tharpanam as part of Sandhyavandanam. Madhyanam is special, that’s why Brahma Yagnam is done after that.

If these are done correctly, you can go for other Yagnams.

How many times to do Sandhyavandanam ?

Three times, no exemptions.. Remember, Dharmo Rakshathi Rakshitah.
    धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः
It is said that when a person does Bhoo Dhanam {Dhanam is also Dharmam ;)}, Bhudevi will provide that person everything in the world like a mother providing breast milk and whateever the child wants. So, Veda Matha i.e., Gayatri , will make us more efficient. Gayatri bestows Ojas, Jnanam, brilliance, Tejas, Vidya and makes us more efficient than the others. Gayatri is the dharmam who protects us and we protect the whole world by chanting Gayatri, you can think of any God during Japam. Recollect Maha Periyava doing abhishekam with milk for Chandramouleeshwara, our heart just melts. With the right pronunciation, meditating on any God will be very easy although it may take a few weeks.

Start doing Sandhyavandanam, lots of problems will occur but these pariharams will decimate the obstacles. This is what Maha Periyava has told in Deivathin Kural. Will power is important at all times, once you realize the phalan, you won’t stray away but Kali Yuga is bad, be on guard.

With regular Sandhyavandanam, Vedas can be mastered easily. Brahmopadesham must be done with proper care. Sanskrit knowledge is important otherwise Sandhyavandanam will be tough, you have the Rishis’ blood, how can you not master Sandhyavandanam?

  6. Veda narayanan from Pune..
IN the days when people say, ‘No Time’ to chant systematically 1008 Gayatri once a year, it is appreciable you have taken up Sahasra Gayatri chanting In groups… Gayatreem chandasaam mata.. Idham Brahma dushasvana:

  7. Thanks for your reply Sivaramakrishnan Sir, After having written on your forum of Sahasra Gayathri Japam something on this page, I felt and apologized in front of Mahaperiyava (i have his vigraham in my house). I am not a person to correct anyone who follows the principles of Mahaperiyava. But I expressed here an opinion made by Sastrigal who has undergone Veda adyayanam. Thanks.

  8. Thank you Mr Ramabadran. i benefited from your insights. You have not done anything wrong. Members of this blog are all followers of principle of Mahaperiyava and no one will mistake any comment made in the right spirit and intention.

  9. If we want to join in Mr. Sivaramakrishnan group can you help us in that Mr. Mahesh sir.
    Thank you
    🙂
