அத்ருஷ்ட பலனை நம்பால் பிரத்யக்ஷ பலனை மட்டும் பார்த்து அநேக விஷயங்களை ஸுபர்ஸ்டிஷன் என்று தள்ளுகிறார்கள் என்றாலும் இவர்களுடைய பகுத்தறிவு (‘ரீஸன்’) படி பதில் சொல்ல முடியாத அநேக ஸுபர்ஸ்டிஷனை இவர்களே உண்டாக்கிக் கொண்டும், பின்பற்றிக் கொண்டும்தான் இருக்கிறார்கள்! நம் தேசத்தில் மட்டுந்தான் என்றில்லை Faith-ஐ (நம்பிக்கையை) க் குலைத்து அதனிடத்தில் reason-ஐ (பகுத்தறிவு என்கிற வெறும் புத்தி தர்க்கத்தை) வைத்து, நம்மையும் இப்படியிழுத்து விட்டிருக்கிற எல்லா தேசத்திலுமே இப்படியிருக்கிறது. Rational -ஆகப் பார்த்தால் Flag (கொடி) என்பது என்ன? ஏதோ ஒரு துணிதானே! அதன் மீது துப்பினால் அது தேசத்ரோகம் என்றால் இது த்ருஷ்ட பலனா என்ன? ஆனாலும் இப்படிப் பண்ணுகிறவனுக்கு த்ருஷ்ட பலனாகவே ஜெயில் தண்டனை கொடுக்கிறார்கள்! மந்த்ரபூர்வமாய் ஒரு ப்ரதிமையில் தெய்வத்தை ஆவாஹனம் பண்ணிப் பூஜை பண்ணுவதைக் கேலி செய்துவிட்டு, ஒரு துணிதான் தேசத்துக்கு ஸிம்பல் என்றால் அது எப்படி? புண்யகாலமாவது, புண்ய க்ஷேத்ரமாவது என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு நாஸ்திகப் பிரசார விழாக்களைக்கூட புத்தர், அம்பேத்கர் பிறந்த நாளில் பண்ணுகிறார்கள்! ஈரோட்டில், காஞ்சீபுரத்தில்தான் ஆரம்ப விழா என்கிறார்கள்! அதாவது அவர்களும் ஏதோ ஒரு ‘புண்ய’ — இப்படிச் சொல்வது எனக்கே வேடிக்கையாகத்தான் இருக்கிறது! — புண்யகாலம், க்ஷேத்ரம் இவற்றில் நம்பிக்கை வைத்துத்தானிருக்கிறார்கள்! ரொம்ப விசித்ரம், ‘ஸமாதி’, ‘ஸமாதி’ என்கிற பேர் வைத்து (நாம் ஏதோ வருஷத்தில் ஒருநாள் திருவையாறு, நெரூர் மாதிரி இடங்களில் *ஆராதனை நடத்துகிறோம் என்றால்) அவர்களோ நித்தியப்படி ஆராதனையே பண்ணிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள்! ஆஸ்திகர்களாயிருக்கிற சட்ட சபைக்காரர்கள் பதவிப் பிரமாணத்துக்கு முந்தி கோயிலுக்குப் போகாமலிருந்தாலும் இருப்பார்கள்; போய்விட்டு வந்தாலுங்கூடச் சொல்வதற்கு வெட்கப்பட்டுக் கொண்டு இருந்தாலும் இருப்பார்கள்; ஆனால் இவர்கள் [பகுத்தறிவாளர் என்று சொல்லிக் கொள்கிறவர்கள்] ‘ஸமாதி’ என்கிறார்களே, அதற்கு ஊர்வலமாகப் போய் மரியாதை பண்ணிவிட்டு வராமல் Swearing-in செய்வதேயில்லை. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

Rationalists concentrate on the visible results and do not believe in the accrual of invisible results, however the rationalistic reformers have created many superstitions which they continue to follow which cannot be explained on the basis of their ‘reason’. This phenomenon is not confined to our nation. Even in those countries where mere ‘Reason’ has replaced ‘Faith’ and had an impact on our own thinking, the situation is the same. If we apply the rationalistic principles strictly, even the national flag is just a piece of cloth. But if somebody spits on it, it is considered a treason (this is not a visible effect – drushta palan) and he is imprisoned – a concrete effect! If after mocking at the consecration of a deity, if a person declares the flag, a piece of cloth, as a symbol of the nation, is it logical? After laughing at the observance of auspicious time and existence of holy places (Punya Kala and Punya Kshetra), even the functions to propagate rationalistic thinking is held on the birthdays of Buddha or Dr. Ambedkar. They seek to hold the function in Erode or Kanchipuram. So these reformers also seem to believe in some sort of ‘holy’ (I feel funny using this term) places and ‘auspicious’ time. We perform Aradhana (yearly worship) to the Samadhis at Nerur or Thiruvaiyaru. But these people seem to be performing daily aradhana. Members of the assembly who are believers may not have gone to the temples before swearing in and will be ashamed to admit it if they have done so after the swearing in.
