ரிஃபார்ம் லீடர்கள் மதசீலம், நெறிக் கோட்பாடு என்று இரண்டாகப் பிரித்ததில் முதலாவதில் பலவற்றை ஆக்ஷேபித்தாலும், பின்னதில் (நெறிகளில்) பலவற்றைப் பின்பற்றுவதால் தங்களைப் பொறுத்தமட்டில் ஏதோ ஒரு ஒழுங்குக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டவர்களாயிருக்கிறார்கள். இந்த ஒழுங்குகளையும், பழைய ஆசாரங்களை மாற்றிச் சீர்திருத்தம் என்ற பெயரில் இவர்கள் செய்கிற புது விதிகளையும் சேர்த்து இவர்களே புது மதங்களை (அப்படிச் சொல்லிக் கொள்ளாவிட்டாலும்) ஸ்ருஷ்டிக்கிறார்கள். Leader -கள் விஷயம் இப்படியிருக்கட்டும். இவர்களுடைய follower-கள் விஷயம் என்ன? பழைய கட்டுப்பாட்டிலிருந்து அவிழ்த்து விடுகிறார்களே, இப்போதே லௌகிகமாக நமக்குப் பலன் தருகிற ஏற்பாடுகளைச் சொல்கிறார்களே என்றுதான் இவர்களை follow பண்ண ஆள் சேர்கிறது. ஸ்வாதந்திரியமாக இஷ்டப்படிப் பண்ணலாம் என்பதற்காகத்தான் பிராசீனமான ஸமயாசாரத்தை விட்டு இதற்கு வருகிறார்கள். லீடர்களுக்கு ஏதோ ஒரு பக்வம், படிப்பு, அநுபவம், கொள்கைப் பிடிமானம் எல்லாம் இருப்பதால் இவர்கள் மதாசாரங்களை விட்டாலும் தாங்களாகச் சில ஒழுக்க நெறிகளுக்காவது கட்டுப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்களென்றால் ஃபாலோ பண்ணும் பொது ஜனங்களுக்கு இந்த யோக்யதாம்சங்கள் எப்படி விசேஷமாக இருக்க முடியும்? அதனால், இவர்கள் (லீடர்கள்) religious virtues-ஐ [மதசீலங்களை] மட்டும் விட்டார்களென்றால் தாங்களோ எந்தக் கட்டுப்பாடுமே வேண்டாம் என்று ethical virtues-ஐயும் [நன்னெறிகளையும்] விட்டுவிட ஆரம்பிக்கிறார்கள். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

Though the reformist leaders have made a distinction between religious virtues and ethical values and raised objections to many of the former, they do tend to follow many of the latter and as such are subject to a certain discipline. By combining these ethical values and certain new rules which are supposed to be reforms made after discarding certain old traditions, these reformers have created a new religion of their own (though they will not accept this nomenclature). If this is the status of the leaders, what is the position of their followers? They start following the reformers only because they are being released from the traditional restrictions and an opportunity is being created for accrual of certain worldly benefits immediately. They are attracted by the possibility of behaving freely without any restrictions and hence they readily give up the traditional religious restrictions and follow the reformers. The reformist leaders are subject to a certain ethical discipline because they have a certain level of education, experience, maturity, and conviction of their principles, though they do not follow the religious traditions. How can we expect the same from the followers?
