Established-ஆக [நன்கு நிலைப்பட்டதாக] உள்ள சாஸ்திர ஆசாரங்களில் கை வைத்துக் கொஞ்சமோ நஞ்சமோ மாற்றிச் ‘சீர் திருத்தம்’ பண்ணலாம் என்கிற எண்ணம் வந்தவுடனேயே ஒழுங்குக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டு நடப்பது என்ற அடக்க குணம் போக ஆரம்பித்து விடுகிறது. பழையதான ஒரு ஒழுங்கு முறையை, “இது மநுஷ்ய ஸ்வதந்திரத்தை நெரிக்கிறது” என்று சொல்லி ஒரு சீர்திருத்த தலைவர் மாற்றியவுடனேயே, அவரைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களுக்கு அவரே போடுகிற புது ஒழுக்க நெறிகள் உள்பட எல்லாக் கட்டுப்பாட்டையும் உடைத்து விட்டு மனம் போனபடி ஸ்வந்திரமாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணம் ஏற்பட்டு விடுகிறது. ஒரு தலைவர், “பழைய ஆசாரக் கெடுபிடியிலிருந்து உங்களை விடுவிக்கிறேன்” என்று ஸ்வயமாசார்யராக, தாமே தம்மை ஒரு ‘ஸேவியராக’ [ரக்ஷகராக] ஆக்கிக்கொண்டு உதவ வருகிறாரென்றால், அவரைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் கொஞ்ச நாளிலிலேயே, “நீங்கள் பழைய ஆசாரக் கெடுபிடிகளிலிருந்து எங்களுக்கு விடுதலை கொடுத்தீர்களானால், இப்போது நீங்கள் புதிதாகப் போடுகிற கெடுபிடிகளிலிருந்தும் நாங்களே விடுபடுகிறோம்” என்று வெளியே கிளம்பிவிடுகிறார்கள்!
அதனால்தான் எந்தக் கட்டுபாடுமில்லாமல் ஜனங்களை அவிழ்த்துவிட்டிருக்கிற சீர்திருத்த இயக்கங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களைப் போலவே, கட்டுப்பாடுகளை வற்புறுத்தும் சீர்திருத்தத் தலைவரைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவர்களும் கொஞ்ச காலத்திலேயே அவரவர் இஷ்டப்படி செய்பவர்களாகிறார்கள். தேசபக்தி, நேர்மை, ஸ்வதேசியம், த்யாகம் முதலியவற்றை எத்தனையோ கட்டுப்பாட்டோடு காத்து வந்த ஸ்தாபனத்துக்காரர்கள் இப்போது எப்படியிருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதைப் பார்க்கிறோமல்லவா? – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
The moment the thought occurs that time tested traditions can be altered and reformed the discipline to obey a certain code of conduct is lost. When a reformist changes a traditional practice declaring that it violates individual freedom, his followers develop a reluctance to follow even the new rules laid down by him in a desire to be free of all restrictions. If a leader comes as a savior to free the people from the shackles of strict traditions, his followers declare that they will free themselves from the new rules imposed by him. The reform movements lift all the restrictions on the people and let them loose and the followers of reformist leaders, in a short time, start behaving in an unrestricted manner, motivated by their own will and wish.
