கீதை முதல் ஸ்லோகத்தில் வருகிற தர்ம க்ஷேத்ரம் என்பது இந்த சரீரம்தான். ஒரு வயல் என்றால் அதில் விளைச்சல் பண்ணுவதற்கு பூஸாரம் வேண்டும்; அப்புறம் ஒவ்வொரு தானியத்துக்குரிய பருவ காலம் பார்க்க வேண்டும். க்ஷேத்ரம் என்றால் வயல். நம்முடைய சரீர வயலுக்கு எது பூஸாரம்? புத்தி பிரஸன்னமாயிருப்பது; இந்திரியங்கள் பழுதாகாமல் சுத்தமாயிருப்பது; விஷயங்களைக் கிரஹித்துக் கொள்ளும் ஞானேந்திரியங்கள், கார்யங்கள் பண்ணும் கர்மேந்திரியங்கள் இரண்டும் தீக்ஷண்யமாயிருப்பது — இதுதான் பூஸாரம். ஓடியாடவும் தளர்ச்சியில்லாமல் ஆலோசிக்கவும் சக்தி இருப்பதுதான் பருவ காலம். இதையெல்லாம் பொறுத்து இந்த சரீர வயலில் தர்மப் பயிரை வளர்த்து, தர்ம க்ஷேத்ரமாக்க வேண்டும். அந்தப் பயிரை வளர வொட்டாமல் ஹானி செய்கிற களைதான் தனக்காக அவசியத்துக்கு மீறிச் செலவழிப்பது. வயல் நிறையக் களை மண்டியிருப்பதைப் பார்த்து நல்ல விளைச்சலென்று ஸந்தோஷிப்பது போலத்தான், தனக்காகச் செலவழித்து அதில் ஏற்படும் ஸெளகர்யங்களைப் பார்த்து ஸந்தோஸிப்பது! களை பிடுங்குவதில் எத்தனை கவனமாயிருக்கிறோமோ அத்தனை கவனமாக அத்யாவச்யத்துக்கு மேலான செலவுகளைப் பிடுங்கிப் போட வேண்டும்.- ஜகத்குரு  ஸ்ரீ   சந்திரசேகரேந்திரசரஸ்வதி  சுவாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

The Dharma Kshethra (the land of virtues) which is referred to in the first stanza of Srimad Bhagawad Gita is our own physical self. If one desires to cultivate something in a land, the land should contain sufficient nutrients. The appropriate season for sowing a particular crop should come. How can our body be nutritious?  The intellect should be clear, the senses should be in perfect order and clean, the Gnanendriyangal (senses pertaining to knowledge) and Karmendriyangal (senses pertaining to action) should be keen. This is the essence of nutrition. When there is ability to run around and be healthy without any hint of weakness that is the right season. Depending on all these factors, one should cultivate the virtues of charity and transform this body into a Dharma Kshethra. The weed that stunts the growth of this harvest is extravagance. Feeling happy about the amount of money we spend for us is akin to becoming joyful on seeing the proliferation of weeds in our land, deeming it to portend a great harvest.
