In today’s sorry state of affairs, a thrifty person is mean and neither has any enjoyment in his life nor helps the others; on the other hand, a spendthrift, in pursuit of more and more comforts, gets into debt and is not in a position to help the others. If only a person follows the noble principle of being thrifty in order to be philanthropic, he will not only earn a lot of Punniya (goodwill) but also enjoy peace of mind.
