ஜெய ஜெய சங்கர ஹர ஹர சங்கர !

மஹா பெரியவர் – எஸ். ரமணி அண்ணா

         தீர்க்க தரிசனம் – செட்டியார் பேரனுக்கும் மடத்துக்கும் என்ன சம்பந்தம்

முன்பொரு முறை மாலை வேளை. காஞ்சி மடத்தில் மஹா ஸ்வாமிகளை தரிசிக்க ஏகக் கூட்டம். நீண்ட வரிசை. நேரம் ஓடிக் கொண்டிருந்தது. ‘இன்னும் எவ்வளவு பேர் காத்திருக்கிறார்கள்?’  என்பதை தெரிந்து கொள்ள தலையை சற்று சாய்த்து நோட்டம் விட்ட ஸ்வாமிகளின் பார்வையில் இருபது வயது மதிக்கத் தக்க ஒரு இளைஞன் தென்பட்டான். அவனையே வைத்த கண் வாங்காமல் சற்று நேரம் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்த பெரியவா, தனக்கு பணிவிடை செய்யும் ராமு என்ற இளைஞனை அருகே அழைத்தார். ராமு அருகில் வந்து வாய் பொத்தி நின்றான்.

“ராமு…’கியூ’ விலே பதினஞ்சாவது ஆசாமியா, குள்ளமா, கொஞ்சம் கறுப்பா நின்னுண்டு இருக்கானே ஒரு பையன்…அவன் சையுசுக்கு சரியா இருக்காப்லே ஒரு சட்டை பேண்டு துணி நீ வாங்கிண்டுவரணும். ஆபிசிலே பணத்தை வாங்கிக்கோ. மடத்துக்கு பக்கத்திலே இருக்கிற முதலியார் ஜவுளிக் கடையிலே நல்ல துணியா பார்த்து வாங்கிண்டு வா !” என்று கட்டளை இட்டார் ஸ்வாமிகள்.

ராமுவுக்கு ஒன்றும் புரியவில்லை, குழம்பினான். ‘ஏன் ? எதற்கு ?’ என்று பெரியவாளைக் கேட்க முடியுமா ! மௌனமாக புறப்பட முயன்றான்.

“ராமு இங்கே வா ! இப்போ நூதனமா துணிக்கு பெயரெல்லாம் சொல்லறாளே, நோக்கு தெரியுமோ ?” என்று பெரியவா கேட்டார்.

“தெரியும் பெரியவா…”

“எங்கே..அந்த பேரைச் சொல்லு, பார்ப்போம் !”

“டெரிகாட்டன்னு பேரு பெரியவா…”

“ம்..அதான்…அந்தத் துணியிலேயே ‘ஒசத்தியா’ பார்த்து வாங்கிக்கோ. புரியறதா ?” என்று சொன்னார் பெரியவா.

பதினைந்தே நிமிடங்களில் ஆச்சார்யாள்  சொன்னபடி ஷர்ட் பேண்ட் துணிகளோடு அவர் முன் வந்து நின்றான் ராமு. துணிகளை தூர இருந்தே பார்த்த ஸ்வாமிகளுக்கு மிகுந்த சந்தோஷம்!

“பேஷ்..பேஷ்…ரொம்ப நன்னா இருக்குடா ” என்று ராமுவைப் பாராட்டிய மஹா ஸ்வாமிகள், “நீ ஒரு காரியம் பண்ணு.

ஒரு மூங்கில் தட்டு நெறைய பழங்களோட, பூர்ண பலம் (மட்டை தேங்காய்) எல்லாம் எடுத்து வெச்சுண்டு, இந்த துணி மணிகளையும் அது மேலே வை. நா சொன்னேன்னு மடத்து மேனேஜர் கிட்டே சொல்லி ஆறாயரத்து எறநூத்தம்பது ரூபாய ஒரு கவர்லே போட்டு எடுத்துண்டு வரச் சொல்லு.அந்த ரூபா கவரையும், தட்டுல துணிமணிக்கு மேல வெச்சுடு. என்ன பண்ணனும்கறதை அப்புறம் சொல்லறேன் !” என்று சொல்லி விட்டு தனக்கு முன்னால் இருந்த பக்தரோடு பேச ஆரம்பித்து விட்டார்.

பெரியவா உத்தரவுப் படியே ஆறாயிரத்து எறநூத்தம்பது ரூபாய் ரொக்கம் ஒரு கவரில் போடப்பட்டு வந்து சேர்ந்தது. ஜாடையிலேயே, அதைத் தட்டின் மேல் வைத்து விட்டு போகுமாறு உத்தரவிட்டார் பெரியவா.

இப்போது, அந்த இருபது வயது இளைஞன், ஸ்வாமிகளுக்கு முன் நின்றிருந்தான். ஆச்சார்யாள் அவனை ஏறிட்டுப் பார்த்தார். அவன் அப்படியே கிழே விழுந்து நமஸ்கரித்து எழுந்தான். ஸ்வாமிகள் ராமுவைத் திரும்பிப் பார்த்தார்.

அருகில் ஓடி வந்தான் ராமு. “ராமு, அந்த மூங்கில் தட்டை கைலே எடுத்துக்கோ!” என்றார். எடுத்துக் கொண்டான் ராமு. உடனே ஸ்வாமிகள், அந்தப் பையனுக்கும் அவன் குடும்பத்துக்கும் நா பூர்ண ஆசீர்வாதம் பண்றதா சொல்லி, அந்தத் தட்டை அவன் கைல குடு!” என்று இன்முகத்துடன் கட்டளை இட்டார்.

தட்டை இளைஞனிடம் ஒப்படைத்தான் ராமு. இளைஞனுக்கு ஒன்றும் புரியவில்லை. விழித்தான். அக்கம் பக்கம் பார்த்தான். செய்வது அறியாது நின்றான். அவனுடைய தவிப்பைப் புரிந்து கொண்ட ஆச்சார்யாள், “ராமு, அவனை ஒண்ணும் குழம்ப வேண்டாம்னு  சொல்லு. அவனுக்கும் அவன் குடும்பத்துக்கும் மடத்தோட அனுக்கிரஹம் இதுனு சொல்லு. கவர்லே ரூபா இருக்கு. பத்திரமா வீட்டுல ஒப்படைக்கணும்னு சொல்லு” என்றார்.

ஒன்றும் புரியாமல் தலையை ஆடினான் இளைஞன். குழப்பம் தீராமல் தட்டை வாங்கிக் கொண்டு ஸ்வாமிகளை நமஸ்கரித்துக் கொண்டு நகர்ந்தான்.

பதினைந்து நிமிடம் கழிந்தது. எல்லோரும் தரிசித்துச் சென்று விட்டனர். தனது அறைக்குள்வந்து அமர்ந்தார் ஆச்சார்யாள். ராமுவை அருகில் கூப்பிட்டார்.

“ஏண்டா ராமு, அந்த பையனுக்கு அப்படி உபசாரம் பண்ணி, அதையெல்லாம் வெச்சுக் கொடுக்க சொன்னேனே…ஏன், எதுக்குனு நீ கேட்கவே இல்லேயே!” என்றார்.

ராமு தயங்கியபடியே, “பெரியவாளைப் பார்த்து நான் எப்படி கேள்வி கேக்கறது ? ஒங்க கட்டளையை நிறைவேத்தத் தானே நான் இருக்கேன்” என்று பதில் சொன்னான்.

“சரி…நீ கேக்க வேண்டாம் ! நானே சொல்றேன்” என்று கூறி விட்டு பேச ஆரம்பித்தார் ஸ்வாமிகள்.

“ரொம்ப வருஷத்துக்கு முன்னாடி நடந்த சம்பவம் இது. அப்போ நம்ப மடத்துக்கு கொஞ்சம் சிரமமான காலம். அப்போ ஒரு மாச காலம், பரிவாரங்களோட வட தேச யாத்திரை போயிட்டு வரலாம்னு முடிவு பண்ணிப் பொறப்பட்டேன்.  நல்ல வேளை பார்த்து யாத்திரை கிளம்பினோம். மடத்து வாசலுக்கு வந்தேன்.மடத்துக்கு எதுதாப்லே ஒரு சின்ன மளிகைக் கடை உண்டு. அது ஒரு செட்டியாருக்கு சொந்தம். மடத்துக்கும் அங்கே தான் மளிகை சாமான்கள் பற்று வரவு கணக்கு.

மடத்து வாசல்லே என்னைப் பார்த்ததும் மளிகைக் கடை செட்டியார் வேகமா ஓடி வந்தார். தன் மேல் வஸ்திரத்தை இடுப்பில் கட்டிக் கொண்டு சாஷ்டாங்கமா நமஸ்காரம் பண்ணினார். நா யாத்திரை போறது தெரிஞ்சு நமஸ்காரம் பண்ணிட்டு போக வந்திருப்பார்னு நினைச்சேன்.

‘என்ன செட்டியார்வாள்…சௌக்கியமா? மளிகை வியாபாரம் எல்லாம் எப்படிப் போறது?’னு விசாரிச்சேன்.

அதுக்கு அவர் வாயைப் பொத்திண்டு பவ்யமாக, ‘சுமாரப் போறது ஸ்வாமி. கஷ்டமாத் தான் இருக்கு. பெரியவா வட தேச யாத்திரை போறதாகவும், திரும்பி வர்றதுக்கு அஞ்சாறு மாசம் ஆகும்னு சொன்னாங்க’ என்று மென்று விழுங்கினார்.

‘ஆமாம் செட்டியார்வாள்..அஞ்சாறு மாசம் ஆகலாம்’ என்றேன். ஒடனே அவர் ரொம்ப யோசனை பண்ணி, தயங்கித் தயங்கி, ‘சாமி, மடத்துக்கும் நம்ம மளிகைக் கடைலே தான் பற்று வரவுக் கணக்கு. சாமிக்கே தெரியும். நாலஞ்சு மாசமா மடத்து மளிகை பாக்கி அப்படியே நிலுவையிலே இருக்கு. எனக்கும் கஷ்டம். நாலு மாச கடை வாடகை பாக்கி. கஷ்டமா இருக்கிறதாலே தான் ஒங்க கிட்டே குறையை சொல்லிக்கிறேன்…நீங்க யாத்திரையை நல்ல படியா முடிச்சிட்டு வாங்க’னு சொல்லிட்டு நமஸ்காரம் பண்ணினார்.

‘செட்டியார்வாள் ! யாத்திரை போயிட்டு வந்த ஒடனேயே ஒங்க மளிகை பாக்கியை பைசல் பண்ணச் சொல்றேன்’னு கிளம்பினேன்.

ஆறு மாச வட தேச யாத்திரை முடிஞ்சு திரும்பினேன். மடத்துக்கு எதிர்சாரியிலே பார்த்தேன். செட்டியார் மளிகைக் கடை பூட்டி இருந்தது. அப்புறமா விஜாரித்துப் பார்த்ததுலே மூணு மாசத்துக்கு முன்னாடி அந்த செட்டியார் வெளியூருக்கு போயிருந்த போது தீடிர்னு ‘கால கதி’ அடைஞ்சுடதா சொன்னா. அவரோட மனுஷாள்ளாம் எங்கே இருக்கான்னும் தெரியலே !

அப்புறமா, செட்டியார் மளிகைக்கு மடத்து பாக்கி எவ்வளவுன்னு தெரிஞ்சு வெச்சுண்டேன். எண்ணுத்தி எழுபதஞ்சே ரூபா. அந்த பாக்கியை இன்னிக்குத் தான் அசலும் வட்டியுமா அவரோட பேரன் கிட்டே தீர்த்து வெச்சேன் ! என்ன புரியறதா ? அந்த பையன் கிட்டே எல்லாத்தையும் வெச்சு ஒன்னை கொடுக்கச் சொன்னேனே, அவன் வேற யாருமில்லை. மளிகை கடை செட்டியாரோட பிள்ளை வைத்துப் பேரன். தாத்தாவுக்கு சேர வேண்டியதை அசலும் வட்டியுமா பேரன்கிட்டே சமர்பிச்சாச்சு. இனிமே கவலை இல்லே !”- மஹா ஸ்வாமிகள் சொல்லி முடித்தார்.

ராமுவுக்கு கேட்கக் கேட்க ஆச்சர்யமாக இருந்தது. அப்போது வேறு ஒரு பையன் ஆச்சார்யாளின் உதவிக்காக அங்கு வரவே, பெரியவாளிடம் உத்தரவு வாங்கிக் கொண்டு, அறையை விட்டு வெளியே வந்தான் ராமு. வந்தவன், மடத்து வாசலை நோக்கி விரைந்தான்.

அங்கே, அந்த இருபது வயது இளைஞன் ஆச்சார்யாளால் அனுக்கிரகப்பட்ட  வஸ்துக்கள் நிரம்பிய மூங்கில் தட்டுடன் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தான். அவனைப் பார்த்தவுடன் ராமுவுக்கு பரம சந்தோஷம். அவனை நெருங்கினான். விஷயத்தை சொல்லி விசாரித்தான்.

அதற்கு அந்த இளைஞன், “ஆமாங்க ! ரொம்ப வருசத்துக்கு முந்தி எங்க தாத்தா இங்க மடத்துக்கு எதுதாப்பிலே மளிகைக் கடை வெச்சிருந்ததா எங்க பாட்டி, அப்பாவெல்லாம் சொல்லுவாங்க. என் தாத்தா திடீர்னு காலம் ஆனதும் நிறைய கடன் ஏற்பட்டதாலே கடையை மூடிட்டு கிருஷ்ணகிரிக்கு வந்துட்டாங்களாம். இப்போ அங்கே தான் எங்கப்பா மளிகைக் கடை வெச்சு நடத்திட்டு இருக்காரு. நான் தான் எங்க ஊர் தெரிஞ்சவங்களோட ‘டூர்’ வந்தேன். வந்த இடத்துலே பெரியவங்க இதெல்லாம் எனக்கு ஏன் பண்ணினாங்கன்னு தெரியலே. ஒரே ஆச்சர்யமா இருக்கு !” என்று தெரிவித்தான்.

ராமுவுக்கு இதைக் கேட்டவுடன் கையும் ஓடவில்லை, காலும் ஓடவில்லை! பெரியவாளின் – அந்த நடமாடும் தெய்வத்தின் தீர்க்க தரிசனத்தை எண்ணி வியந்தபடியே மடத்துக்குள் சென்றான். அப்போது இரவு ஏழு மணி. தனி அறையில் ஏகாந்தமாக வீற்றுறிருந்தார் ஆச்சார்யாள்.

ராமுவைப் பார்த்து அர்த்த புஷ்டியுடன் சிரித்தார் ஸ்வாமிகள். ராமுவுக்கு ஒன்றும் புரியவில்லை. அவனை அழைத்த ஆச்சார்யாள், “நா சொன்ன விஷயம் வாஸ்தவமா இல்லியான்னு நோக்கு சந்தேகம் வந்துடுத்து. மடத்து வாசலுக்கு போய், அந்த செட்டியார் பேரனையே நேரடியாகப் பார்த்து, ஊர்ஜிதப்படுத்திண்டு வந்துட்டியோல்லியோ !” என்று சொல்லி சிரித்தார்.

உடனே ராமு, “பெரியவா…என்னை மன்னிக்கணும். ஒரு ஆர்வத்திலே அப்படிப் பண்ணிட்டேன். வேற ஒண்ணுமில்லை. மன்னிச்சேன்னு சொல்லுங்கோ”  என்று கதறி அழுதான் !

அந்த தெய்வம் சிரித்துக் கொண்டே கை தூக்கி ராமுவை ஆசீர்வதித்தது.

Deerkha Darisanam – What is the relation between Sri Matam and Chettiar’s grandson?

There was a long queue to have darshan of Maha Periyava on that evening at Kanchi Sri Matam. Time was running and Maha Periyava looked outside to see how many more people were waiting for His darshan. He looked at a twenty year old person standing in the line and called his aide Ramu. Ramu came and stood near Periyava, bowed with his mouth covered with his hand.

Periyava pointed at a young man standing in the queue and asked Ramu to get shirt and pant cloth that will be fit for him. Periyava told him to get the money from Sri Matam office and get it from the Mudaliar dress store adjacent to Sri Matam.

Ramu was confused. How can he question Periyava. Ramu silently started to carry out His orders. Periyava called him again and asked if he knew the name of the new type of clothes being sold.

Ramu answered “yes Periyava, I know”.

Periyava then asked, “Tell me the name then”.

Ramu said “Terry cotton”.

Periyava then said, “Yes, get the best quality dress in that”.

Ramu was back in fifteen minutes with the new clothes. Periyava was over joyed after seeing the clothes from a distance. Periyava appreciated Ramu for the clothes and asked him to keep them in a bamboo plate with fruits, coconut and an envelope with Rs. 6250 /-.

“I will tell you what needs to be done with the clothes and the envelope later” said Periyava and continued His conversation with the devotee standing next to Him.

As instructed by Periyava, the bamboo plate was bought and kept near Him. When that particular devotee’s time came. He prostrated and Periyava looked at Ramu. Ramu got the bamboo plate.

Periyava looked at Ramu with a smile and said, “Give the plate to that person and tell him that my blessings are with him and his family.”

Once Ramu gave the plate to that person, the devotee confused. He looked at both sides and did not know what he was supposed to do. The One who knows everything, the Jagad Guru understood the person’s confusion and told Ramu,

“Ramu, tell him not to be confused. Sri Matam’s blessings are with him and his family always. There is money in the envelope. Ask him to take it safely to his house”. The devotee shook his head, bowed down towards Periyava and moved on still with some confusion in his mind.

After some time, when all the devotees had the darshan and left, Periyava called Ramu to His room.

Periyava said “Ramu, you never asked me why I gave the clothes and the money to that person”.

Ramu hesitantingly said, “How can I ask such questions to you? I am here to execute your orders”.

“Ok. You dont need to ask. I will tell you” said Periyava and started to narrate the story.

“This incident happened a long time ago. Those days were difficult times for Sri Matam. I decided to go on a yatra to North India for a month. We picked an auspicious time and started for the yatra. I came out of Sri Matam. There used to be a small grocery store opposite to Sri Matam owned by a Chettiar. All the grocery items for Sri Matam was supplied from that store.

As soon as the Chettiar saw Maha Periyava, he came and prostrated at His feet. Periyava thought that, since He was leaving for the yatra, the Chettiar came for His blessings. Periyava asked the Chettiar, how he was doing and how the business was.

Chettiar with his mouth covered with his hands told him that business is not that good. He also asked if Periyava will be gone for 5-6 months on His yatra?

“Yes, it will take 5-6 months” said Periyava. Chettiar said that due for 4-5 months is pending from Sri Matam and he is also having financial tough times and that is the reason he is telling his problems. He bowed once again wished for a safe yatra for Periyava.

Periyava said that dues will be settled by Sri Matam once he is back from the yatra.

After six months, once Periyava was back from the yatra, He noticed that the Chettiar’s store was locked. The chettiar had gone to another town three months back and had passed away there. Nobody know about the where abouts of the family.

Periyava found out the amount that Sri Matam owed to the Chettiar Rs. 875 /-.

Periyava told Ramu, “I have just settled the amount with interest to Chettiar’s grandson. The devotee who had come was the grandson of the Chettiar. Now the Chettiar’s amount has been settled. No more worries.”

Ramu was surprised on hearing the story. Since there was another aide who had come, Ramu requested Periyava that he will leave now. Once he came out, he went towards door and out of Sri Matam.

Ramu saw the Chettiar’s grandson with the bamboo plate. He told Periyava’s story and enquired.

The grandson said that his grandfather had the store opposite to Sri Matam and his death suddenly. Due to the financial dues, they had moved to Krishnagiri and started another store. He had come on a tour and did not know why Periyava gave the plate.

Ramu was surprised on hearing the story from Chettiar’s grandson and was went to Periyava’s room. It was 7 pm and the Acharyal was sitting alone in His room.

On seeing Ramu, Periyava smiled. Ramu did not understand. Periyava called him and said, “I think you did not believe what I said and went and talked to the Chettiar’s son outside Sri Matam” and laughed.

Immediately Ramu said, “Please forgive me Periyava, I was very curious and that is the reason I talked to the Chettiar’s son, please forgive me”.

Periyava smiled and raised His hands to bless Ramu.
