கோயிலில் பலபேர் சேர்ந்து பூஜைகள், உத்ஸவங்கள், கும்பாபிஷேகங்கள் செய்து, பொன்னையும் பொருளையும். கந்தம், புஷ்பம், நைவேத்யம், மேளதாளம் எல்லாவற்றையும் அர்ப்பணம் பண்ணுகிறோமென்றால் இதற்குப் பர்பஸே [நோக்கமே] வேறு. இப்படிப்பட்ட கூட்டுப்பணிதான் மதத்தின் முடிவு என்ற அபிப்பிராயத்தில் இதைச் செய்யவில்லை. ஆனால், community thanks giving -ஆகவே இதைச் செய்கிறோம். ஈஸ்வரனிடமிருந்து ஸமூஹம் முழுதும் பலவிதமான அநுக்ரஹங்கள் பெறுகிறதல்லவா? அதற்காக ஸமூஹம் முழுவதும் சேர்ந்து அவனுக்கு நன்றி தெரிவிப்பதற்கு அடையாளமாக, நன்றிக்கும் அன்புக்கும் ஸ்தூலமான அடையாளமாக, அவன் நமக்குக் கொடுத்திலிருந்தே திரும்ப அவனுக்கு வஸ்திரம், நைவேத்யம், வாஹனம் என்றெல்லாம் அர்ப்பணிப்பதுதான் நம்முடைய கூட்டு ஆலயப்பணியின் பர்பஸ்.

‘ஸால்வேஷ’னுக்கு [விடுதலைக்கு] இதோடு நின்றுவிட்டால் போதாது. ஈஸ்வரனின் பரம க்ருபையில் கோயிலைச் சுற்றிச் சுற்றி வந்தும், அந்த மூர்த்திகளில் அப்படியே உள்ளம் சொக்கி பக்தி பண்ணியுமே மோக்ஷ ஸாம்ராஜ்யத்துக்கும் போனவர்கள் உண்டுதான். ஆனாலும் இங்கேயுங்கூட அது அவர்கள் இன்டிவிஜுவலாக [தம்மளவில் மட்டும்] செய்து கொண்டதுதானே? பொதுவில் ஆலயத்திலிருந்து பெறுகிற சக்தியைத் தனி வாழ்க்கையின் அநுஷ்டான சுத்தத்தால் விருத்தி செய்து கொள்வதாகவே நம் மதம் இருக்கிறது. அவனவன் இப்படி சுத்தமாக அநுஷ்டானம் பண்ணித் தன்னைத்தானே கடைத்தேற்றிக் கொள்வதற்கான சக்தியையும் கோயிலுக்குப் போய்ப்போய், வேண்டி வேண்டியே பெறலாம். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

If people gather together in the temple and arrange worship, processions, and consecrations by offering flowers, fragrances, culinary delicacies, gold, and money as divine submissions at the feet of Bhagawan, the purpose is something different. They are not performed in the belief that that such joint efforts and service are the very purposes of the religion. It is done as community thanksgiving. Does not the society receive a lot of blessings from Bhagawan?  So the entire society comes together to express its gratitude to the Almighty, The clothes, the delicacies and the processional carriers (Vaahanams) we offer to Him are only solid manifestations of our feelings of love and gratitude towards Him. We give them back from whatever He gave us. This is the purpose of the duties we perform together in the temples.

But this is not sufficient to lead us towards salvation. Of course, there had been people who had lost themselves in devotion, enthralled by the deities and drawn irresistibly towards the temple and attained salvation by the sheer intensity of this Bhakti. But again this was a fruit of their individual efforts. Our religion is directed at enhancing the divine power one acquires by visiting the temples through individual adherence to a pure life lived according to the scriptures.
