நான் திரும்பச் திரும்பச் சொல்லியிருக்கிறேன் – ஹிந்து மதம் Individual -ஐ சுத்தி செய்கிறதற்குத்தான் முதல் இடம் கொடுக்கிறது. மற்ற மதங்கள் மாதிரி அதில் social spirit [ஸமூஹ உணர்வு] இல்லை என்று அந்த மற்றவர்கள் கண்டனம் செய்கிறபோது, நாமும் இப்படி ஒரு மதம் இருந்தால் அது உசந்தநிலைதான் என்று தப்பாக நினைத்துக்கொண்டு அவர்களிடம், “அதெல்லாமில்லை, எங்கள் மதத்தில் பரோபகாரத்தைப் பற்றி எவ்வளவு இருக்கிறது பாருங்கள், அதுதான் எங்களுக்கு முக்கியம்” என்று defensive -ல் [தற்காப்பில்] argue பண்ணவே வேண்டாம். ஏனென்றால் வாஸ்தவத்திலேயே ஸொஸைட்டியைவிட நம் மதத்துக்கு இன்டிவிஜுவல் தான் முக்கியம். அவனவனும் தன்னுடைய ஆசார அநுஷ்டானத்தால் அவனவனை சுத்தி செய்து கொள்வதுதான் நம் மதத்துக்கே உயிர்நிலை என்பது என் அபிப்பிராயம். இன்டிவிஜுவல்களின் ஸ்வய அநுஷ்டான பலத்தினாலும், அவர்களுடைய பரிசுத்தியின் சக்தியினாலுந்தான் இந்த மதம், மற்ற எந்த மதமும் தோன்றுவதற்கும் முன்னாலிருந்து பதினாயிரம், லக்ஷம் வருஷங்களாக அந்த எல்லா மதங்களும் இதன்மேல் படையெடுத்து வந்ததையும் மீறி, இன்றைக்கு எந்த மதமுமில்லாத நாஸ்திக்யம் கரைபுரண்டு வந்துங்கூட ஸமாளித்து ஜீவனோடு இருக்கிறது என்பதே என் அபிப்பிராயம். ஹிந்துக்களின் மதத்துக்கு உயிர்நிலை தனி மநுஷ்யனின் ஸ்வதர்மப்படியான சுத்த வாழ்க்கை; கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் மதத்துக்கு உயிர்நிலை பரோபகாரம்; துருக்கர்கள் மதத்துக்கு உயிர்நிலை கட்டுப்பாடு என்பது என் அபிப்ராயம். பொதுவில் ஹிந்து மதம் தவிர மற்ற எல்லா மதத்தினருமே ரொம்பவும் organised -ஆக இருப்பார்கள். நமக்கு ஆர்கனைஸேஷன் போதாது; இங்கே தனி மநுஷ்ய சக்தியாலேயே மதம் ஜீவிக்கிறது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

I want to emphasize repeatedly that when others criticize that the Hindu religion accords more importance to the purification of the individual rather than social service, we need not take a defensive stance under the impression that only religions with social feeling are superior and argue with them about the philanthropy which our religion preaches. The reason is that our religion actually accords more importance to the individual than the society.  The true spirit of our religion lies in its emphasis on the purification of the individual by following certain practices prescribed by our scriptures. It is my opinion that it has been the strength of the individual self-discipline and the power of individual purity which has made Hindu religion which appeared before all other religions, survive the onslaughts of other religions and also the religion-less atheism and flourish for the past millions of years. It is my opinion that the heartbeat of our religion is individual purity, in Christianity it is Service, and in Islam it is discipline.
