தங்கள் க்ராமத்தில் அல்லது பேட்டையில் ஒருத்தன் சாகிற நிலையில் இருக்கிறான் என்று தெரிந்தால் அங்கே ஸங்கத்திலிருந்து ஒருத்தரோ சிலரோ போக வேண்டும். வீட்டிலே இல்லாமல் ஆஸ்பத்திரியிலோ ஜெயிலிலோ உயிரை விடுகிறவர்ளும் உண்டு. எனவே இப்பேர்ப்பட்ட இடங்ளுக்கும் தங்களை அனுமதிக்கும்படியாக அந்தந்த அதிகாரிகளிடம் பெர்மிஷன் வாங்கி வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும். அங்கே வெறும் கையோடு போகக்கூடாது. நாமம்தான் ஸர்வரோக நிவாரணி என்பது வாஸ்தவமே. அதற்கு வெளி வஸ்து ஒன்றும் வேண்டியதில்லைதான். ஆனால் ஸ்தூலமாக ப்ரஸாதம் என்று ஒன்றைக் கொண்டு போய்க் கொடுத்தால் அதற்கும் ஒரு தனி உத்ஸாஹ சக்தி உண்டுதான்; அது சாகிற ஜீவனுக்கு ஜாஸ்தி ஆறுதலாக இருக்கும். ஆனதால், முதலிலேயே கையில் சிவன்கோவில் விபூதி, பெருமாள் கோயில் துளசி ‘ஸ்டாக்’ வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும். அம்பாள் கோயில் குங்குமம், முருகன் அல்லது பிள்ளையார் கோயில் விபூதி என்று எது இருந்தாலும் ஸரி. சிவபரமாகவும், விஷ்ணுபரமாகவும், ஏதாவது இரண்டு கோயில் ப்ரஸாதம் ஸ்டாக் இருக்க வேண்டும். கங்கா ஜலம் ஸர்வ பாப சமனம் ஆனதால் சங்கா தீர்த்தமும் வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும். மரணமடைகிற ஜீவன் சைவ மதமோ, வைஷ்ணவ மதமோ அதைப் பொறுத்து அந்தந்த ப்ரஸாதத்தை எடுத்துப் போக வேண்டும். கங்கா தீர்த்தம் எல்லோருக்கும் பொது. அநேக சைவர்கள் துளஸி ப்ரஸாதத்தையும் ஆக்ஷேபிக்க மாட்டார்கள். இப்போதெல்லாம் வைஷ்ணவர்கள்கூட, ஈஸ்வரன் கோயில் ப்ரஸாதம் என்றால் விபூதி ப்ரஸாதம் கேட்டு வாங்கிக் கொண்டு போகிறார்கள். ஆனால் நாம் அவரவர் அபிப்ராயத்துக்கு அநுகூலமாகத்தான் ப்ரஸாதத்தைத் தரவேண்டும். மரண ஸமயத்திலே ஓர் இடத்தில் போய் ஸித்தாந்தச் சண்டைகளைக் கிளப்பக் கூடாது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

If we come to know that a person is in the death bed in our town or area, one person or a few individuals from the association should go to his house. Some persons may be facing the final moments of their lives either in a hospital or inside the confines of a prison. A standardized permission obtained from the authorities must be kept in hand to ensure access to these people. One should not go empty handed to such places. It is true that the name of Bhagawan (Bhagawan Nama) is powerful on its own and is the healer of all diseases and it does not need any external form. But at the same time, if we take the prasadam of Bhagawan with us, it will provide some happiness and consolation to the person on the death bed. So one should always have a stock of Vibhuthi (the holy ash) from a Siva Temple or Thulasi (the holy basil) from the Vishnu Temple. It can be the Kumkumam of Ambal, the Vibhuthi of Ganesha or Muruga; there should be a stock of prasadams for both the Shaivite and Vaishnavite followers. One should also have the Holy Ganges water in hand, the Ganges water having the power to cleanse one of all sins. Ganges water is common to both the Shaivites and Vaishnavites. Many Shaivites will not object to Thulasi leaves also. Nowadays, even many Vaishnavites receive the Vibhuthi as Eshwara Prasadam. In short, we should carry that prasadam which will offer some solace to the dying person, according to his leanings.
