சாகத்தான் போகிறோம் என்று முதலில் தெரியவேண்டும். அதற்கப்புறம் அதற்காக பயந்து நடுங்காமல், புத்தியை நன்றாகத் தெளிவுபடுத்திக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். அப்படிப்பட்ட தெளிவோடு, இந்த க்ஷணம் உயிர் போகிறது என்றால்கூட அந்த ஒரு க்ஷணத்திலாவது ஐகாக்ரியத்தோடு (ஒரு முகமான சிந்தனையோடு) பகவானை மட்டுமே நினைக்க வேண்டும். அப்படி ஒரே க்ஷணத்தில் ப்ராணன் போய்விட்டால் நல்லது. பகவானை விட்டு ஸ்மரணை நகராதபோதே உயிரைவிட்டு, அவனிடமே போய்ச்சேரலாம். ஆனால் இப்படி யாரும் சாகக்காணோமே! குண்டு போட்டுச் சுட்டால்கூட ஒரு ஐந்து பத்து நிமிஷத்துக்கு அப்புறம்தானே உயிர் போகிறது அத்தனை நாழி – அந்த ஐந்து, பத்து நிமிஷமும் ப்ராண ப்ரயாணத்தின் மஹா அவஸ்தைகளை மறந்து பகவானை ஸ்டெடியாக நினைத்துக் கொண்டு அப்படியே ப்ராணனை அதன் மூலத்தில் கரைக்கிறது ஸாத்யமா?’ எலக்ட்ரிக் ஷாக்’ மாதிரி அடித்து உடனே Instantaneous சாவு வருகிறது என்றால், அந்த ‘இன்ஸ்டன்ட்’டில் பகவான் நினைவு வந்துவிட்டால் போதும். ஆனால் வரவேண்டுமே! வராவிட்டால்? பயம் வரக்கூடாதே! அல்லது, அப்படியே உணர்ச்சி மரத்துப்போய் ப்ரக்ஞையில்லாமலும் சாகக்கூடாதே!
உடனே ப்ராணண் போகாமல் எந்த க்ஷணமும் போகலாம் என்று அது பாட்டுக்கு இழுத்துப் பறித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தால், அத்தனை நாழியும் (அது நாள் கணக்கில் கூட இருக்கலாம்) பகவானையே நினைத்தாக வேண்டும்; அல்லது நினைக்கிறதற்குக்கூட அவகாசம் தராத விதத்தில் மஹா பீதியையே துளியூண்டு நாழிகைக்குள் தருகிற விதத்தில் – எலெக்ட்ரிக் ஷாக் மாதிரி அடித்துச் சாவதானாலும், அந்த fraction of a second -லும் பகவத் ஸ்மரணை பூர்ணமாக ரொம்பிக் கொண்டு வந்து நிற்க வேண்டும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
We should first know that we are going to die. We should not be consumed by fear but retain the clarity of mind. Even if this is possible, we should wholeheartedly think of Bhagawan at the moment the life leaves the body. Then one can reach the lotus feet of Bhagawan. But death is never instantaneous. Even if a person is shot, it may take five or ten minutes for the life to leave the body. During those torturous final moments, the struggle of the ebbing life force should be forgotten and the mind should be focused on Bhagawan. Is it possible? Even if the death is instantaneous as in the case of an electric shock the Almighty should be thought of in that moment. One should not get scared or become unconscious. If the death comes after a prolonged struggle the mind and heart should be focussed on Bhagawan even for days together. It was anayaasena maranam for my beloved father on 12 May 2012. He told my mother to telephone my sister first [who would inform all her five brothers]. He said to my mother that he would be gone in 10 minutes. And he departed accordingly. But unfortunately none of his six children were with him at that moment. Two were in Delhi, one in Chennai, one in Coimbatore and one in Singapore. The last one his daughter was in Madurai. Air India strike was on then. However all of us — one by one — reached the next day by 14.00. I am yet to hear a similar end to anyone anywhere amongst my near and dear ones [Earlier my grand parents too departed anaayaasamaa]. When I contemplate about mine, I am ready here and now — “all my bags are packed, ready to go…”
Of course like Sri Subrahmanya Bharathiyaar I will not say “Kaalanae inge vaa, unnai kaalil poettu midikaraen…” as I have tremendous amount of respect and bhakti towards Yamaa to whom I offer my prayers thrice a day with my Yama-vandanam during the trikaala sandhyavandanam.
