சாச்சு!

என்ன இது?

பிரம்மஸ்ரீ சதாசிவ சாஸ்திரிகளின் செல்லப் பெயர் இது. ஆனால், இன்னொரு பெயரும் அவருக்கு உண்டு. அது… ‘சிவன் சார்’!

ஆசார- அனுஷ்டானங்களைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கும் குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்தவர். எனவே, உரிய வயதில், எல்லாச் சடங்குகளும் நடந்தேறின.

கும்பகோணம் டவுன் ஹைஸ்கூலில் கல்வி; பதினோராம் வகுப்பு முடிந்ததும் அய்யன் தெருவில் கலை- கைவினைக் கல்விப் பள்ளியில், சித்திரப் பயிற்சி எடுத்துக்கொண்டார். புகைப்படக் கலையில் திறன் கொண்டார்; கும்பகோணத்தில், ‘சிவன் ஆர்ட்ஸ் அண்ட் ஃபோட்டோ ஸ்டூடியோ’ வைத்தார்.

சாச்சுவுக்கு மண வாழ்வில் விருப்பமில்லை. எனினும், குடும்பத்தாரின் விருப்பத்துக்கு இணங்க வேண்டியிருந்தது. ஒருகட்டத்தில், அனைத்தையும் துறந்து, தனிமையை நாடினார்.

காஞ்சி மகாபெரியவாளின் அபூர்வமான பல படங்களை எடுத்தவர், சாச்சுதான்! கும்பகோணம் டபீர் படித் துறையில், மகாபெரியவா காவிரியில் குளித்துவிட்டு, படியில் காவிரியை வடக்குமுகமாகப் பார்த்தபடி அமர்ந்திருக்க, பின்னே சுமார் நூறு பேர் படிகளில் சுற்றி நிற்பார்கள். இந்தப் படத்தை எடுப்பதற்கு மகா பெரியவா உத்தரவிட, உடனே சிவன் சார், காவிரியில் இறங்கி நின்றுகொண்டு, அதனை அப்படியே படமெடுத்தார்! பிறகு, இது பற்றிக் குறிப்பிடும்போது, ”பெரியவா எனக்கு வைத்த டெஸ்ட் இது’‘ என்பார், சிவன் சார்!

சிதம்பரம் கோயிலை, அதன் 4 கோபுரங்களும்தெரியும்படி புகைப்படம் எடுத்து அசத்தியதும் அவர்தான்.

ஒருகட்டத்தில், போட்டோ ஸ்டூடியோவை, தன் மீது மிகப்பெரிய பக்தி கொண்டிருந்த வேங்டேஸ்வரா ஸ்டூடியோ பெரியசாமியிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார்.

‘கேன்வாஸ் போர்ட்ரைட்’ வரைவதில் தேர்ந்தவர் சிவன் சார். இவர் வரைந்த மகாபெரியவாளின்படம், முடிகொண்டான் வாஞ்சிநாதன் என்பவரது வீட்டில் இன்றும் உள்ளதாம்!

What is this……?

This is the pet name of Bramhasri Sadasiva Sastrigal. But he has one more name. That is….. Sivan Sar!

He was born in a family that followed all customs and traditions. Therefore at the appropriate age, the necessary rituals ( like Upanayanam) were completed. He studied at the Kumbakonam Town High School. After completing eleventh grade, he joined the Art and Craft School at Ayyan Street and excelled in drawing and photography. He then started the “Sivan Arts and Photo Studio” at Kumbakonam.

Chachu was not interested in married life but had to respect the wishes of his family members. At one stage , he left everything and sought to be alone.

Chachu has clicked some very rare photographs of Kanchi Sri Maha Periyava. At the Dabeer Padithurai (Padithurai is steps adjoining a river) at Kumbakonam, Maha Periyava, after a bath in the Cauvery, was sitting facing North, with about a hundred devotees standing behind Him. He ordered that this scene be photographed. Sivan Sar stood in the waters of the Cauvery and clicked the photograph. Later, while speaking about this incident, Sivan Sar said “ This was a test conducted for me by Sri Maha Pariyava.”It was Sivan Sar who also took the remarkable photograph of the Chidambaram Temple with all the four Gopurams in view.

After some years, Sar handed over his photo studio to his close devotee Periasamy of Venkateswara Studios.

Sivan Sar was very skilled in drawing canvas portraits. The portrait of Sri Maha Pariyava drawn by Sar can be seen even today at the house of Mudikondan Sri Vanchinathan.
