There is no response even if the Vedic Education is provided free of cost. Many persons have attempted to teach Thirukkural, Divya Prabandham, and the hoary Sidhdhar Shaastram through free classes but there have not been many takers. The public do not support these classes feeling that they cause a hindrance to the formal school education which may help them to secure jobs. My suggestion is that private schools can be established to teach Vedic education to those who need it and other ancient arts and shaastraas. If the school timings are extended by half an hour or one hour daily and the number of holidays are reduced, our national arts and shaastraas can be taught with the regular syllabus. If thus children are able to appear for the Matriculation examination without any waste of time, the parents also will not have any objection in sending their children to such schools. It is not necessary that only pensioners should perform this task. This is a noble deed which will help in shaping a generation of children who will be the true inheritors of our great culture. The foundation for this service lies in providing all facilities to those seek to learn the Vedas and those who come forward to teach them. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal

  1. I fully agree with Sridharji. Maha Periyava was liberal in respect of so many areas as a sort of compromise necessiated by kali yuga that too present day developments of overseas jobs and IT revolution. Previously there were jobs like postal, insurance, banking, Ags office, railways, central state govt jobs, teachers etc. mostly confined to the local areas, at best with in India.I have across cases
Where the daughters of sasthrigal and vaidehas with vedic background want to marry only lovkeekas like IT pros. In fact the parents shun alliances of vaideeha boys. Jayaraman. Definitely, Mahaperiyava who is reincarnation of Prameswara himself will definitely bless new initiatives. It is something is better than nothing. Jayaraman.

  2. I completely disagree on your second sentence.
Probably you have been misinformed of the activities of these institutions.

I have also participated in several Vedic chantings conducted by all these institutions and I do not find any deviation.
I have stayed in their midst for many number of days also.
Most of these are youngsters in their late teens or early twenties.
They are taught Vedams by competent Vedic pundits right from a very young age.
(When I say Vedas it is mostly Sri Rudram and other hymns, like Mahanyasam and Aruna Prasna.
They Lead an exemplary disciplined student life.
They learn Vedas not for a livelyhood but for the love of God.

Your objection is fully justified based on the Shastric injunctions.
Vedas uttered by a person born in a Vaideeka family has definitely more power.

But you have to accept that less and less Brahmins are opting for the study of Vedas.
Many Vedapatashalas are either closed or running with minimum strength.
Once we had a Vaideeka in each Brahmin family.
That was sufficient to uphold the Veda Dharma.
But today even the offsprings of great Vaideeka families have turned away from the Vedic studies, for better prospects in other fields.

So we definitely need more and more people (irrespective of caste, creed or gender) to study these scriptures and propagate them for the future generations.
You must also understand that institutions don’t displace Vaideeka Brahmins with other people.
Competent Vaideekas continue to head the Vedic ceremonies and guide others.

My humble opinion is that if we are to uphold the Vedic Chanting and Tradition , then there is no point in objecting to this new development.
Yes, its a deviation, but it’s probably the second best things we have.

I know these points may not be palatable to most, but unfortunately that is the truth today.

    • 1. I have personally seen many a times in Prashanthi Nilyayam, Puttaparthi where Veda Mantras are played in audio with all men and women chanting them in Chorus before Swami gives darshan. Is this in line with Maha Periyava’s teachings? No. There are many other institutions in US where Vedas are taught in this fashion. Probably they are teaching in authentic way too which I’m not aware off but can only talk to what I have seen.

      2. All caste, creed chanting Vedas (including women chanting Gayathri Maha mantram) are absolutely not in line with Periyava’s teachings. You do not have to take my words for it. This is what Maha Periyava says in the Deivathin Kural link posted above. I can also post additional materials on that.

As I keep saying whatever I post is not my opinion; they are either hard facts that I have seen personally or directly quoting from Deivathin Kural. That is all.

Agreeing or dis-agreeing is one’s personal choice. Ram Ram

  3. I think Mahaperiyavaa spoke these words of wisdom in the 1940s.
Nowadays there are several schools started by Great Masters like Bhagwan Sathya Saibaba, Sri Sri Sri Ravishankar, Sri Ghanshyam Bhai Oza of Gujarat and several saints of North India where Vedas are taught as a compulsory subject to students, irrespective of caste, creed or gender.
I was blessed to listen to these sacred chantings from these young minds, on many occasions and Was literally transported to the days of Gurukula-Life.

Of course the orthodox few may not agree to these liberal ideas, but what is important is that these institutions play a pivotal role in the propagation of Vedas.

  4. There is a change in the attitude of people Now a days there are many who voluntarily opt for Vedha classes and there are few good people who are willing to teach Vedha
