பொதுக் கார்யம் செய்கிறவர்கள் இப்போது முதலில் இன்னின்னார் நிறைய உதவக்கூடும் என்று ‘லிஸ்ட்’ போட்டுக்கொண்டு அந்த வரிசைப்படி கலெக்ஷ்னுக்குப் போகிறார்கள் அல்லவா? இதில் அநேகமாக ஏமாற்றங்கள்தான் உண்டாகின்றன. நாம் ரொம்பவும் தாரளாமாகக் கொடுப்பான் என்று நினைக்கிறவனுக்கு ஏதாவது ச்ரமமிருக்கிறது. அல்லது மனஸில்லை. கையை விரித்துவிடுகிறான். அல்லது மூக்கால் அழுது கொண்டு சுஷ்கமாகக் கொடுக்கிறான். உடனே நமக்குப் பணியிலேயே உத்ஸாஹம் குறைந்துவிடுகிறது. அந்த ஆசாமியைத் தூற்ற ஆரம்பிக்கிறோம். இதற்குப் பதிலாக நான் என்ன சொல்கிறேன் என்றால், யாரார் நன்கொடை தர மாட்டார்கள் என்று தோன்றுகிறதோ அவர்களை ஒரு லிஸ்ட் போட்டுக் கொள்ளுங்கள், முதலில் இப்படிப்பட்டவர்களைப் போய்ப் பாருங்கள். அவர்கள் கையை விரித்து விட்டால் அதற்காக நமக்கு மனஸ் தளரப் போவதில்லை. ஏனென்றால் இது நாமே எதிர்பார்த்தது தானே? மாறாக அவர்கள் ஏதோ கொடுத்தாலும் கொடுக்கலாம். சில சமயம் அள்ளியும் கொடுக்கலாம். இப்படிக் கொடுக்க நேரிட்டால் நமக்கு உத்ஸாஹம் கரை கடந்துவிடும்! பணியில் இன்னும் தீவிரமாக இறங்குவோம். இப்படி என் வார்த்தைப்படி, கொடுக்காமல் இருக்கக்கூடியவர்களின் லிஸ்டைப் போட்டுக்கொண்டு முதலில் அவர்களிடம் வசூலுக்குப் போய், அப்புறம் கொடுக்கக் கூடியவர்களைப் பார்த்தவர்கள், பிற்பாடு என்னிடம் வந்து ‘ஸைகலாஜிக’லாக இதில் தங்களுக்கு ரொம்பவும் த்ருப்தியும், உத்ஸாஹமும் உண்டானதாகச் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள். யாசகக் கலையில் இப்படிப் பல ‘ட்ரிக்கு’கள் இருக்கின்றன! – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

People involved in social service generally prepare a list of possible donors and approach them for donations. Many a time, this results in disappointments. A person from whom we expect a generous donation may be facing some difficulties or he may be just unwilling. We return empty handed. Immediately, our enthusiasm dissipates and we start abusing the person. My own suggestion is to prepare a list of persons whom we feel will be reluctant donors.  Initially, we can approach them for donations. If they refuse, we will not be greatly disappointed. Sometimes, they may donate a little or surprisingly, even a substantial amount. In such a case, our enthusiasm will know no bounds. We will continue our efforts more vigorously. Social workers who have followed my advice and initially approached the “reluctant” donors and later the “generous” donors have admitted to me that psychologically this was very satisfying and encouraging.
