In the olden days, every Hindu would feed a handful of grass to at least one cow per day and persons with the benefit of a garden will cultivate Agathikirai, that form of greens so much liked by cows. That handful of grass for a cow, used to be called “Go graasam”. May be this is the etymological source for the English word “Grass’. When all meadows are getting converted into housing colonies and roads, we should cultivate agathikeerai and arugu (a form of grass), even if we have a small piece of land in our backyard, and feed the cows. We waste the peelings when we cut the vegetables in our homes.
