Digging a well or a pond in a place with acute water scarcity has been praised as a great act of charity since the ancient days. People can dig ponds in villages. Existing ponds can be de-silted. People should forget their differences and cooperate. Even a big landlord should dig with a spade. This has been stated in our ancient scriptures. Laying of foundation stones or cutting a ribbon are not in our scriptures. However important a person may be, he should sweat it out with others and perform this Poortha dharma or Social Service.
