பேபி – லில்லி – பில்லி-ன்னு கூப்பிடாதே!”

(தர்மசங்கடமான ஒரு கேள்விக்கு சாதுர்யமாகவும் திருப்தியாகவும் பதில் அளித்த பெரியவா)

தொகுப்பாசிரியர்;கோதண்டராம சர்மா.

ஒரு வேளாள பக்தர் “நான் காயத்ரீ மந்திரம் சொல்லலாமா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

தர்மசங்கடமான கேள்வி!

“சொல்லலாம்; கூடாது” என்று எதைச் சொன்னாலும் அதற்கு சாதக – பாதகமான விமரிசனங்கள் வந்துவிடும்.

ஸ்ரீமடத்தின் பணி சநாதன தர்மங்களைப் பேணிப் பாதுகாப்பது. கடந்த ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளில் பாரதம்
எதிர்கொண்ட தாக்குதல்கள் ஏராளம். அவைகளைத் தாங்கிக் கொண்டு, சில சமயங்களில் நாணல் போல்
வளைந்து கொடுத்துக்  கொண்டு, பின்னர் புயல்-காற்று நின்றதும் நிமிர்ந்து நின்று,தன் வேர்களைக் காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்ளும் தனித் திறமை,பாரத சமுதாயத்துக்கு உண்டு.

ஆனால், ஒவ்வொரு மாற்றத்திலும் ஸ்ரீமடம் தலையிட்டுத்தான் ஆகவேண்டுமா? அதன் பங்கு
எவ்வளவு? இன்றைய சிந்தனை நாளைக்கே பழசாகிப் போய் விடுகிறது; ஒதுக்கித் தள்ளப்படுகிறது.

அணையை உடைத்துக் கொண்டு வரும் வெள்ளப் பெருக்கின் சீற்றத்தை யாராலும் கட்டுப்படுத்த முடியாது, என்றாலும், வெள்ளம் ஒரு நாள் வடிந்து ஆற்றின் நீரோட்டம் சீராக அமையத்தானே செய்கிறது.

இப்படியெல்லாம், பெரியவாளுக்கு சிந்தனை உண்டா என்பதை  அறிந்தவர் யாருமிலர்!

ஆனால், எந்த ஓர் இக்கட்டான நிலயையும் தளர்த்தி இயல்பான போக்கில் விடும் தனியாற்றல்
பெரியவாளுக்கு உண்டு.

பக்தரின் அந்தக் கேள்விக்கு நேரடியாகப் பதில் சொல்லவில்லை.”உனக்கு எத்தனை குழந்தைகள்?”
என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

அவரிடமிருந்து ஆச்சரியமான பதில் வந்தது.

“உங்க கிருபையால், மூணு பெண்களைப் பெத்திருக்கேன். சின்னக் குழந்தைகள்,அஞ்சு வயது,மூணு வயது, ஆறு மாசம்..”

“ஒரு பெண்ணுக்குக் காயத்ரீ-ன்னு பேர் வை. இன்னொன்று ஸந்த்யா,மூணாவது சாவித்திரி
மூணு பெண்களையும் அந்தந்த பேரைச் சொல்லியே கூப்பிடு. ‘பேபி – லில்லி – பில்லின்னு கூப்பிடாதே!”

“இப்படி காயத்ரீ -ஸந்த்யா – ஸாவித்ரீ ன்னு சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருந்தாலே காயத்ரீ ஜபம் செய்த
புண்ணியம் உனக்குக் கிடைச்சுடும்.

பக்தரின் முகத்தில் ஆனந்த வெள்ளம் பொங்கியது. சம்பிரதாய விரோதமான ஒரு காரியத்தை
செய்வதற்கு தயங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த அவருக்கு சிந்தனைத் தெளிவை அனுக்ரஹித்து விட்டார்கள்
பெரியவா.

பெரியவாளிடம் பிரசாதம் பெற்றுக் கொண்டு மகிழ்ச்சியோடு சென்றார் அவர்.

Do not call Baby, Billie, Lillie!

Once, a devotee of the “Vellala” community asked Periyava, if, he could recite the Gayatri Maha Mantram.

This would have been a delicate situation. Both “yes you could recite the mantram” and “No, you cannot recite it” would have led to unwanted criticism.

The Sri Matam strongly believes in propagating our sanatana dharmic values. In the past 1000 years, India has witnessed numerous struggles and uprisings. With tact, grace, and diplomacy, these struggles have always been overcome and we have emerged a stronger nation.

Sometimes one wonders, how such changes in the society and thinking of people in general affect the matam? Even when the floods flow in full fury it does recede one day and becomes normal right?

However delicate the situation might be, nothing is beyond the Supreme capabilities of Periyava.

Without directly addressing the devotee’s question, Periyava asked him “How many children do you have?”

Surprisingly the devotee replied : With your grace , I have been blessed with three daughters…they are all very young…ranging 5 years, 3 years and 6 months.

Periyava then continued “Name your children Gayathri, Sandhya, and Savithri. Be sure to call them by those names alone. Do not use names such as Baby- Billie-Lillie. If you keep calling them Gayatri-Sandhya-Savithri, that itself, will become a japam and you shall obtain the fruit of having recited the Gayathri Japam itself.

The devotee was overwhelmed with happiness. Periyava blessed him by answering his question positively, without having him digress from his tradition.

The devotee left contentedly after receiving prasadam from Periyava.
