வேதம் என்றாலே முதலில் ஞாபகம் வருவது யாகம்தான். யாகமும் த்யாகமும் ஒன்றுதான். இங்கிலீஷில்கூட யாகம், த்யாகம் இரண்டையும் ‘ஸாக்ரிஃபைஸ்’ என்றுதானே சொல்கிறார்கள்? ஆனதால், வைதிகம் என்பது தன்னலமே கருதுவது என்கிற அபிப்ராயம் அடியோடு பிசகு. தன்னலத்தை முழுக்க த்யாகம் பண்ணுவதுதான் ஸநாதன தர்மத்தின் லக்ஷ்யம். இங்கே ‘தர்மம்’என்பதே மதம். வேத தர்மம், ஹிந்து தர்மம் என்றாலே வேதமதம், ஹிந்து மதம் என்றுதான் அர்த்தம். இதே ‘தர்மம்’ பரோபகாரங்களில் ஒன்றான ஈகையாக நினைக்கப்படுவது. அதனால் நம் மதமே பரோபகாரமானதுதான். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
The mention of Vedas brings the thought of Yaagams or ritualistic fire worships to our minds. Yaagam is nothing but Thyagam (Sacrifice). After all, in English language, both are referred to as Sacrifices.The opinion that Vedic way of life is self centered is entirely wrong. The very aim of Sanathana Dharma, our ancient code of conduct is sacrifice of the self. Here Dharmam or Virtue itself becomes Religion. Vedic Code of conduct or Hindu Code of conduct are not essentially different from the Vedic religion or Hindu religion. This very dharma is considered as Philanthropy by many.
