மே 30,2016,- தினமலர்

காஞ்சிபுரம் சங்கரமடத்தில் ஒரு துப்புரவு பணியாளரும், அவரது மனைவியும் பணியில் அமர்த்தப்பட்டிருந்தனர். இவர்களுக்கு இரண்டு பெண் குழந்தைகள். குடும்பத்துடன் மடத்தில் தங்கி பணி செய்தனர். பெற்றோர் பணியில் இருக்கும் போது, குழந்தைகள் இருவரும் மடத்தில் விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருப்பர். அவர்கள் பக்தர்களுக்கு இடைஞ்சலோ, ஊழியர்களுக்கு தொந்தரவோ அளித்தால் தந்தை அவர்களைக் கண்டிப்பார்.

ஒருநாள் பணியாளரின் முதல் குழந்தை சத்தமிட்டபடி ஓடினாள். தந்தை அவளை ஓரிரு முறை கண்டித்தும் அவள் பொருட்படுத்தவில்லை.

கோபமுடன், “ஒரு தடவை சொன்னா கேட்க மாட்டியா? தொடப்பக்கட்டை….” என்று திட்டினார். பயந்து போன குழந்தை மிரண்டு போய் நின்றாள்.

அந்த நேரத்தில், காஞ்சிப்பெரியவர் அந்த இடத்திற்கு அருகில் நடந்து சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார். அவரது காதில் ஊழியர் குழந்தையைத் திட்டியது விழுந்தது.

அங்கேயே நின்று விட்டார்.

சீடரிடம் பணியாளரை அழைத்து வரச் சொன்னார்.

‘தான் திட்டியதை பெரியவர் கவனித்து விட்டார். அதனால் தான் அழைக்கிறார்’ என்பது பணியாளருக்குப் புரிந்தது.

தலைகுனிந்தபடி வந்த பணியாளர், வாயைப் பொத்தியபடி மவுனமாக பெரியவர் முன் நின்றார்.

“இப்படி திட்டுறியே…. பொண்ணுக்கு என்ன பேரு?” என்று கேட்டார்.

‘லட்சுமீங்க…. சாமீ!” என்றார் பணியாளர்.

“அழகான ஒரு பேரை வச்சுக்கிட்டு இப்படி கூப்பிடறியே! ஒரு தெய்வத்தோட பேரை பொண்ணுக்கு வச்சிட்டு தொடப்பக்கட்டைன்னு சொல்லலாமா?” என்ற பெரியவர் மேலும், “தொடப்பக்கட்டைன்னா ஏதோ வேண்டாத பொருள், அசூயைப்படுற பொருளா நினைச்சு திட்டுறியே… எத்தனை பெரிய மாளிகையாக இருந்தாலும் துடப்பம் இல்லேன்னா வீடே நாறிப் போயிடும் தெரியுமா? இனிமேல் இதுபோல வார்த்தைகளைச் சொல்லி திட்டாதே. குழந்தைகளிடம் சிடுசிடுக்காதே…. அழகா லட்சுமின்னு கூப்பிடு… உம் பொண்ணும் கிட்ட வருவா… அந்த மகாலட்சுமியும் உங்கிட்ட வருவா….!” என்றார் பெரியவர்.

பணியாளர் தவறை உணர்ந்து வருந்தினார். குழந்தைகளிடம் அன்புடன் பேசுவதாக பணிவுடன் தெரிவித்தார். அதன் பின் பெரியவர் அங்கிருந்து நகர்ந்தார்.

குழந்தைகள் என்பவர்கள் இயல்பில் குறும்புக்காரர்கள். அவர்களை அன்புடன் பேசி திருத்தலாமே தவிர கடுமையான வார்த்தைகளால் திட்டக்கூடாது. அப்படி செய்தால் மகாலட்சுமி கூட விலகி விடுவாள் என்பது பெரியவரின் செய்கையில் இருந்து தெரிய வருகிறது.

Do you know what happens if you Scold the Child?

Once in Kanchipuram Sri Sankara matam there lived an attendant and his wife who were both engaged in its daily service. They had  two girl children. While their parents were engaged in doing service , the children used to play around the matam . If their playing caused hindrance to either the devotees or other fellow attendants, their parents used to reprimand them.

Once , their older daughter kept running about noisily. Even after being reprimanded once , she continued to do it. Losing his temper, her father shouted “ Can’t you listen to me ? Broomstick !”:( thodapakattai).The child got scared and stood frozen .

At that time, Periyava who was passing nearby heard this attendant using harsh words against his child and beckoned him nearby. The attendant , rightly fearing that , his conduct might have displeased Periyava stood before him apologetically.

Periyava said “ You used such harsh words with that poor child…what have you named her?”

Remorsefully the attendant said “She is called Lakshmi”.

Periyava then continued “ You have given such a beautiful name to your daughter, the name of the goddess herself, Yet, why did you call her in such an offensive manner ? You are under the impression that a broomstick is an unwanted , replusive object ,but did you think without the regular use of a broomstick even a big palace will lose its charm. Do not use such harsh words against your children.  Do not lose temper with them. Call her with her beautiful name “ Lakshmi”..not only will your daughter come ,even the Goddess Mahalakshmi will come.

From then on the attendant resolved never to use harsh words or lose temper with his children.

Children , by nature , are mischievous. We should correct them gently, with kindness , never with harsh words. If we do so, the Goddess Mahalakshmi herself gets displeased. This is what Periyava’s teachings have shown us.
