க்ருஷ்ண யஜுஸில் உள்ள தைத்திரீயோபநிஷத்திலும் (1.11.3) தானத்தைப் பற்றிச் சொல்லியிருக்கிறது.
அது என்ன சொல்கிறது? “சிரத்தையோடு தானம் கொடுக்க வேண்டும். அசிரத்தையோடு கொடுக்கக் கூடாது” என்கிறது. ஸ்ரீயை (அதாவது செல்வத்தை) க் கொடுக்கும்போதே மனஸை ஸ்ரீயாக (லக்ஷ்மீகரமாக, மங்களமாக, ஸந்தோஷமாக) வைத்துக்கொண்டு கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்கிறது. முகத்தைச் சுளிக்காமல் கொடுக்க வேண்டும். ஸ்ரீயின் நிறைவுதான் ‘ச்ரேயஸ்’ என்பது. மனஸில் ஸ்ரீயுடன், மனமலர்ச்சியுடன், கொடுத்தால் இந்த தானத்தின் பலனாக ‘ச்ரேயஸ்’ கிடைக்கிறது. இன்னம் ஜாஸ்தி கொடுப்பதற்கு நம்மால் முடியவில்லையே என்று வெட்கத்தோடு கொடுக்க வேண்டும். ஹ்ரீயுடன் கொடு என்கிறது உபநிஷத். ‘ஹ்ரீ’ என்றால் வெட்கம், லஜ்ஜை என்று அர்த்தம். புருஷ ஸூக்தத்தில் பகவானுக்கு ஹரீ, ஸ்ரீ (லக்ஷ்மி) என்று இரண்டு பத்னிகள் இருப்பதாகச் சொல்லியிருக்கிறது. இங்கேயும் லக்ஷ்மியை, அதாவது பொருளைத் தரும்போது, ”ஸ்ரீயோடு கொடு”, ”ஹ்ரீயோடு கொடு” என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறது. வெட்கம் இரண்டு காரணத்துக்காக. ஒன்று, இன்னும் ஜாஸ்தி தரமுடியவில்லையே என்று; இரண்டாவது, தானம் பண்ணுவது வெளியிலேயே தெரியக்கூடாது என்ற கௌரவமான கூச்சம். வெளியில் தெரிந்தால் மற்றவர்களும் ‘தேஹி’ என்று பிடுங்குவார்களோ என்பதால் அல்ல. இவன் தர்மிஷ்டன் என்று நாலு பேருக்குத் தெரிந்து நம்மை ஸ்தோத்ரம் பண்ண ஆரம்பித்தால் நமக்கு அஹம்பாவம் வந்துவிடும். அது தானத்தின் பலனையெல்லாம் சாப்பிட்டு விட்டுப் போய்விடும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
Thaiththriya Upanishad belonging to Krishna Yajur vedam also talks of Philanthropy. It asks us to give charity wholeheartedly. According to Purusha Suktham, “Sree and Hree” are the two consorts of Lord Maha Vishnu. When we give “Sree” (wealth) to others, we should do it with “Sree” (happiness) in our hearts. We should not do it reluctantly. “Sree culminates in Shreyas”. In other words, when we give wholeheartedly, the very act brings us glory. Upanishad also says that we should give with ‘Hree”. ‘Hree’ means Shyness; Shyness that one is not able to give more and shyness that others may come to know of this benevolence (not because they will also seek help) and start showering praises.
