Off to Kailash Yatra!

namavali096

Two years back, I received an email from a devotee in Atlanta asking for my address as she wanted to send me something “surprising. It was interesting – not knowing what it is, I gave my address….Few days later, I received two very large size poster of Lord Kailasanathar. I was extremely thankful and felt blessed to receive. On an auspicious Mahasivarathiri day, I framed it and added it to my puja room. Even after all that happened, I never thought that I would go to Kailash one day. Sometime in the fall of 2015, set of devotees from Chicagoland started discussing about a trip – it slowly started and now within few months with the blessings of Lord Kailasanathar and Mahaperiyava we are actually going – can’t believe it!

A group of 35+ Mahaperiyava devotees both from US and India are part of this team….We are blessed to have very learned ganapadigal, devi upasakars and several Sivanadiyaars accompanying us. While most of them are going directly to the yatra, few of us (including me) are visiting Kathmandu to get darshan of Lord Pasupathinath before the yatra. After the yatra is over, some are visiting to Naimisharanya Kshetram before heading back to Chennai/US.

We received the blessings of HH Balaperiyava for the trip. We sincerely hope that we have the blessings of Mahaperiyava who is none other than sakshaath Parameswaran to complete this yatra smoothly without any vignams.

Thank you Smt Bhuvana Natarajan to send that lovely Kailasanathar photo, which in my mind somehow started this trip.

Aum Nama Shivaya!

  3. Ram Ram
    You are absolutely correct Sir.
During my first trip to Kailash in 2013 I strained myself too much trying to photograph all and sundry and involving myself in all sorts of rituals near the holy mountain. As a result all of us became so tired that we could not fully enjoy the Divine Darshan.

However during my sojourn to Kailash Manasarovar in 2014 (via the Indian Route) which involves trekking close to 200 Kms, I was accompanied by a Telugu-speaking Man from Nashik who was 66 years at that time and it was his 7th trip to Kailash.

He gave me some useful advice at that time and I just wanted to share.
    1. Kailash is the Holiest of all Kshetras as Shiva resides there. So our only motive in the entire Yatra is to ensure that our thought and sight be only on HIM. Darshan of Kailash Mountain will not be always steady. Sometimes fog and clouds will completely cover the Holy Mountain, for hours and even days together. So we should utilise every moment of Darshan while we are there.
    2. Yagnyas, Poojas, Parayanams are all tools to reach the Supreme. At Kailash you are face-to-face with Shiva and have reached your destination. Hence there is no need for any of these tiresome rituals except constant contemplation of Shiva. When you are staying at a height of 15,000 feet, you body gets very tired. The problem of Altitude Sickness is always looming around. So we should not strain ourselves with too many rituals.
    3. Once you enter the realms of Kailash you become Pure, physically and mentally. Hence there is no need for all the external purity-measures like head-bath every day, wearing dhoti without upper garments etc. Bathing in Manasarovar is Great, but ensure you do it when the sunshine is there. (We bathed twice daily on all the three days we stayed at Manasarovar). Other than Mansarovar, please consult your Chinese guide before taking bath (even in hot water) in any other place in Tibet. That is not because of the cold climate alone. These waters are too hard for our body and hence may not be conducive for our health. And always keep yourself full covered.
    4. Last but not the least, Chant the Panchakshara, to the extent possible. Enjoy the Divine Experience. You need not do anything else. Just think of SHIVA alone.

I am happy to inform you that I tried following the above dictums to the best of my ability. It was sheer Bliss, which cannot be described in words, during our 7 days stay in the Realms of Kailash and Manasarovar.
Mahesh, I wish you a Wonderful Yatra.

  4. Thanks to everyone for your wishes…..I am quite elated to receive so many of your wishes. Yes, Mahaperiyava is with all of us. So it is His responsibility to help us with a smooth yatra…As I am traveling with folks who have lots of experience with Mahaperiyava, I am hoping to capture audio/video of those narration as well….

Will keep sharing the photos etc as and when I have internet access and time!!!

    Thanks again…

    • Namaskaram! It is a humble suggestion for you to stay from the digital world and experience the serene atmosphere, the beauty of the nature, the freshness in the air, the purity of the water bodies and the music of the birds.

Once upon a time, Kailash yatra was done only by few who had the courage to explore and who were free to take the biggest risk – as a result of it they experience freedom from fear.

I hope you are able to discover the ultimate purpose and craft the plan for rest of your life. Wish you good luck!

  5. Dear Mahesh,

  13. My Sincere Prayers, for a Great, Blissful Spiritual Pilgrimage..to all ….

  14. For the selfless service, no wonder you are getting this blessings from Lord Paremeswara. Please pray for the well being of all living beings.

  15. My dear Sri Mahesh:

    || Sivaaya Nama: Om || Sri Mahaaperiyavaa would of course be there with you at every moment of your pilgrimage to Mount Kailash. It is heartening to see you’d be visiting Kathmandu [Pasupathinaath] and Naimishaaranyam as well. [If you have time, since you are going all the way to Kathmandu, you can go to Muktinath as well. Helicopter for 6 people costs Nepalese Rs.2 lakh from Kathmandu. It takes only half-a-day — by Sri Periyavaa’s Grace].

For Helicopter service the following is the contact [tried and tested. And so reliable]

    Agrawal Rudraksha & Shaligram
Hotel Maharaja [Located at a distance of about 2 kms from the airport]
    Gaushala, Tilganga, Kathmandu
    Tel: 00977-1-4113676-77-78, 2022927
    Mobile: 00977-9851042892, 9802031524
    E-mail: nepal@agrawalrudraksha.com
    http://www.agrawalrudraksha.com

[They deal in all sorts of rosaries, rudrakshas, precious/semi-precious stones. They also sell Saaligramam. But purchasing it from a shop is only secondary to picking it up yourself from the banks of Gandaki]

When I was at Pasupathinaath in March 2014, I had the good fortune of singing Appar’s Devara padhigam — Maasil veenayum, maalai madhiyamum…. The archakas immediately sidelined me, garlanding me, offering prasadam etc. I was overwhelmed. [You know they are from Karnataka]

At Naimishaaranyam [if you have not already made accommodation arrangements] you can straightaway proceed to the Sai Mandir. They have about 25-30 self-contained rooms. The rent is left to an individual’s ability/desire to pay. They provide breakfast/lunch/dinner [very humble in content – just enough to fill your stomach.]

    Their address:

    SRI SAI GURUDWAR
    Managing Trustee
    Sri Guru Ram Ratan-ji
Gomathi Marg [It is located at a distance of a furlong from the banks of serene river Gomathi]
    Opp. BSNL Tower
    Naimisaaranyam, Sitapur District
    U.P.

    Cell: +91 9005719162
    Tel: +91 5865 251500

I will be looking forward to hear your successful completion of the pilgrimage.

    With Best Wishes,

    – Sri

PS: I am myself leaving on a pilgrimage to Panch-Dwaraka through M/s Mahalakshmi Yatra Service, Chennai beginning tomorrow. As such I will be away from email etc. till about 4th July when I would return [GW].

I am posting this on a message board so that others can also make use of the information contained herein.

  16. May GOD and Maha Periva’s blessing be with you as always! Have a successful Yatra and be blessed by Kailashnath!

Shambo Shankara, Hara Hara Maha Deva!

  17. Best wishes for a very Happy, safe and memorable Journey to you and your group too.

  18. Mahesh
    Congratulations.
One can visit Kailash only when you are Called by HIM.
Many consider it as a test for physical strength.
But actually the entire journey is a test for your Spiritual strength and will-power, both of which Mahaperiyava has Blessed you abundantly.
By the Grace of Maha Periyava, I was able to visit Kailash-Mansarovar twice.
Once in 2013 with my wife via Kathmandu.
The second time in 2014 I went alone on the Indian Route, conducted by the MEA.
We could complete this Yatra successfully only because of the infinite Grace of HIM.
I wish you a Wonderful and spiritually-fulfilling trip.

  19. May Sri Mahaperiyava be always with all of the Travellers, for safe, enjoyable trip and blissful darshan of Kailashnath!!
