‘Annadhaanam’ or giving food to the needy has a special value. In Srimadh Bhagawadh Geetha, Bhagawan Sri Krishna says (3.13) that whoever gathers food only for his own consumption, should suffer for all his sins on his own. Nobody else will share those sufferings.
