When a person is in difficulties, we should not probe into his caste or religion or bother whether he is good or bad. Whoever he may be, however he may be, we should help him in whatever possible way and mitigate his suffering. Especially when talking about Annadhanam (donating food), the holy scripture Thirumandhiram specifically advises us to give to everybody, without going into their merits or demerits. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal

  1. I read this Sri Periyava’s golden quote (230) yesterday.

Last evening i was walking on the road to market, a passer by a handicapped person on a tricylce, hand pedalling slowly, one of the cycle tyre was punctured and i looked at him to help him, he asked me a loan of Rs.260 to replace his punctured tube and said will return the money by tommorrow. I asked him to take to nearby cycle shop for repair but he said he will on the way to home will fix the tube, but i thought to give some amount rs. 20 or rs.50, as help but he refused to receive it, he wants only full amount. As i started thinking whether to give rs.260 or not, but he started pedalling and went away. Then I went to the near by provision shop, suddenly Sri Periyava golden quote (230) struck to me, so i took rs. 260 to gave it to him but he were seen no where.

I felt guilty and thought of what Sri Periyava said about help that we should not probe his caste or religion or bother whether he is good or bad. Whoever he may be, however he may be, we should help him in whatever possible way and mitigate his suffering. Even am afford to give rs.260/- i missed to follow the Sri Periyava upadesam

    • Ram Ram – One thing we should really watch out for here is if the person is in genuine need or not; his sufferings are genuine or not; That determination has to be made very clearly before helping others as said by Sri Periyava. Talking out of my experience here 🙂 Ram ram
