அநேக ஸ்தோத்ரங்களில் – முக்யமாக ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவ க்ரதங்களில் – “சரணம் ப்ரபத்யே, சரணம் ப்ரபத்யே” என்று வருவதைக் கேட்டிருப்பீர்கள். வேதத்திலேயே இருக்கப்பட்ட ஸ்ரீஸூக்தத்திலும் துர்கா ஸூக்தத்திலும் “சரணம் ப்ரபத்யே”என்று வருகிறது. ‘ப்ரபத்யே’என்றால் ‘அடைக்கலம் புகுகிறேன்’, ‘சரணாகதி பண்ணுகிறேன்’என்று அர்த்தம். ஒன்றிடம் ஸர்வஸங்க பரித்யாகம் (total surrender) பண்ணிவிடுவதுதான் ப்ரபத்தி. அதாவது ‘ஸரண்டர்’ பண்ணுகிறவன் தன்னை அடியோடு ஸைஃபராக்கிக் கொண்டுவிட வேண்டும். அப்போது எதனிடம் இவன் ‘ஸரண்டர்’ பண்ணுகிறானோ, அது இவனை ஆட்கொண்டு, அப்படியே ரொப்பி விடும். இப்படியே பகவானிடம் தன்னை அடியோடு ஸைஃபராக்கிக் கொண்டு அவனாலேயே பூராவும் ரொப்பப்படுகிற நிலையைத்தான் பொதுவாக நாம் பார்க்கிற ஸ்தோத்ரங்கள், மந்தரங்கள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் ‘ப்ரபத்யே’, ‘ப்ரபத்யே’ என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறது. .-ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

In many slokas, especially those composed in the Sri Vaishnavite tradition, the refrain “Saranam Prapadhye’ can be heard often. This phrase also occurs in Durga suktam and Sri Suktham, a part of the Vedas. Saranam prapdhye literally means that “I am surrendering myself”. Prapaththi is nothing but total surrender. In other words, one who surrenders should completely negate himself. Then whatever he surrenders to, will completely fill him. When we surrender ourselves to Bhagawan, reducing ourselves to the value of a zero, He completely takes over us.
