“தான் சுத்தமாவதுதான் ஸர்வ தர்மமும்” என்றால் இது ஸ்வயநலம் மாதிரி அல்லவா இருக்கிறது என்று தோன்றலாம். ஆனால் இது நாம் லோக ரீதியில் நினைக்கிற மாதிரியான ஸ்வயநலம் இல்லை. பிறத்தியாரைக் கஷ்டப்படுத்தியாவது நம் இந்திரிய ஸுகங்களைப் பூர்த்தி பண்ணிக் கொள்வதுதான் தப்பான ஸ்வயநலம். மனஸை சுத்தப்படுத்திக் கொள்ள வேண்டுமானால் நாம் கஷ்டப்பட்டாவது நல்லதே பண்ண வேண்டியதாகிறது. இது இந்த்ரிய ஸெளக்கியங்களிலிருந்து நம் மனஸை மீட்டு சாச்வதமான பேரின்பத்தில் சேர்ப்பதற்கு உதவுகிறது. மனஸை நல்லதிலேயே செலுத்தி, பகவான் தந்திருக்கிற வாக்கு, சரீரம் எல்லாவற்றையும் நல்ல பேச்சு, நல்ல காரியங்கள் இவற்றிலேயே பிரயோஜனப்படுத்தி இந்த உயிரைப் பேரின்ப நெறியில் சேர்க்க நாம் கடமைப்பட்டிருக்கவில்லையா? சின்னதான ஸ்வயநலத்தைவிட்டு, இந்தப் பெரிய ‘ஸ்வயநல’த்துக்கு எல்லோரும் பாடுபடத்தான் வேண்டும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
When it is said that all acts of charity are only to purify one self, it may sound like selfishness. But this is not selfishness in the material sense of the word. Only when we trouble others to satisfy our sensual desires, it is selfishness. If we seek to purify our hearts, we have to perform certain good tasks even if we have to face certain difficulties. This will save us from the trap of sensual desires and enable us to dwell in eternal bliss. We are all duty bound to sublimate ourselves by always entertaining only good thoughts and by utilizing the power of speech and the body God has given us for good speech and good deeds respectively.
