ஆசைக்கும் துவேஷத்துக்கும் காரணம் அகங்காரம். அகங்காரம் தொலைந்தால் எந்தக் காரியங்களுக்கிடையிலும் உயர்வு தாழ்வு தெரியாது. நாம் பாட்டுக்கு நம் கடமை இது என்ற உணர்ச்சியோடு ஆனந்தமாகச் செய்து கொண்டிருப்போம். லோகம் க்ஷேமமாக இருக்கும். ‘நான் செய்கிறேன்; எனக்காகச் செய்து கொள்கிறேன்’ என்கிற அகம்பாவம் இல்லாமல் கடமையைச் செய்து, பலனை ஈசுவரனுடைய பாதத்தில் அர்ப்பணம் பண்ணுவதுதான் கீதை சொல்கிற கர்மயோகம். சொந்த விருப்பு வெறுப்பில்லாமல், லோக க்ஷேமார்த்தமாகக் காரியம் செய்து ஆத்ம பரிசுத்தி பெறுகிற இந்தப் பண்பாடு, வேத காலம் தொட்டு நம் தேசத்தில் தழைத்து வந்திருக்கிறது. அந்தப் பண்பாட்டை ஒரு கையடக்கமான பேழையில் போட்டுக் கொடுத்த மாதிரி கீதையில் அநுக்கிரகம் செய்திருக்கிறார் ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ண பரமாத்மா. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

The reason for desire and hatred is pride/ego, ‘Ahamkara’. When there is no ego/pride, we won’t see any differences (like high or low) in the actions we perform. We will keep doing our work happily as a matter of duty and thus also contribute to the world’s happiness. The Karma Yoga taught by the Bhagawad Gita is doing one’s work without ‘Ahamkara’ (ego), with the spirit of dedicating to the Lord. This tradition of desireless action that purifies our inner being has existed in this land from the Vedic period.
