சாஸ்திரங்கள் நம்மையெல்லாம், ‘இது இதைச் செய்’ என்கிற விதிகளாலும், ‘இது இதைச் செய்யாதே’ என்ற நிஷேதங்களாலும் கட்டிப் போட்டிருக்கின்றன. அவற்றால் நமக்கும் நன்மையே; லோகத்துக்கும் நன்மையே. அந்த சாஸ்திரப் பிரகாரமே நாம் காரியம் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று கிருஷ்ண பரமாத்மா கீதையில் அடித்துச் சொல்கிறார். “தஸ்மாத் சாஸ்த்ரம் ப்ரமாணம் தே கார்யா கார்ய வ்யவஸ்தி தௌ” என்கிறார். “எது செய்யத் தக்கது; எது செய்யத் தகாதது என்று நிச்சயிப்பதில் சாஸ்திரமே உனக்கு பிரமாணம்” என்று அழுத்தமாகச் சொல்கிறார். அவனவன் தன் மனம் போனபடி முடிவு பண்ணாமல், சாஸ்திரப்படியே கர்மம் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்கிறார். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
Sastras have kept us bound, by asking us to adhere to a set of rules and regulations. It is for our benefit as well as the world’s, says Lord Krishna, that we must live according to the tenets of the sastras: “Tasmaath Saasthram Pramaanam Te Karyaa Kaarya Vyvasthi Thau” (the Sastras are the authority as to what you must do and must not).
