ஸ்ருதி ஸ்முருதி புராணானாம் ஆலயம் கருணாலயம்
நமாமி பகவத்பாத சங்கரம் லோக சங்கரம்.

ஆழ்வார்களுக்கும், ராமாநுஜர், தேசிகர், மணவாள மாமுனிகள் முதலானவர்களுக்கும் பெருமாள் கோவில்களில் பிம்பம் இருக்கிறது. ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவர்களுக்கு மதாபிமானமும் நிறைய இருப்பதால் அந்த பெரியவர்களுடைய அவதார தினங்களில் ஆலய பிம்பங்களுக்கு விசேஷ பூஜை, புறப்பாடு, சாத்துப்படி என்று விமர்சையாகப் பண்ணுகிறார்கள். அப்பர், ஸுந்தரர் முதலான 63 நாயன்மார்களுக்கும், உமாபதி, சிவம் முதலிய சைவ சமயாசார்யர்களுக்கும் இதே போல ஈச்வரன் கோவிலில் பிம்பங்களிருப்பதால் அவர்களுக்கும் விழா நடந்துவிடுகிறது. வைஷ்ணவ ஸம்ப்ரதாயமாகவோ, சைவ ஸம்ப்ரதாயமாகவோ இல்லாமல், எல்லா ஸம்ப்ரதாயங்களுக்கும் மூலமாகவும், அவை யாவற்றையும் ஒப்புக் கொள்வதாகவும் உள்ள ஸ்மார்த்த ஸம்ப்ரதாயக்காரராக நம் ஆசார்யாள் இருப்பதால்… இரண்டு கோவில்களிலேயும் அவருக்கு பிம்பமில்லை! வைதிக பூஜை உள்ளதாகவோ, அவரால் யந்த்ர ப்ரதிஷ்டை போன்ற ஏதோ ஒன்று செய்யப்பட்டு அவருடைய விசேஷ ஸம்பந்தம் உள்ளதாகவோ இருக்கிற ஒரு சில கோவில்களில் மாத்ரந்தான் ஆசார்ய பிம்பமிருக்கிறது.

எல்லா ஜனங்களும் இந்த விசேஷத்தைப் புரிந்து கொண்டு ஆசார்ய ஜயந்தியை மஹோத்ஸவமாகக் கொண்டாடவேண்டுமென்று எனக்கு ஆசை. அவர் பெயரைச் சொல்லிக்கொண்டு பிழைப்பதனாலோ என்னவோ, அத்தனை ஜயந்திகளைவிடவும் விசேஷமாக, அவை எல்லாவற்றையும் தக்கி நிற்கச் செய்த இந்த ஜயந்தியைக் கொண்டாட வேண்டுமென்று எனக்கு இருக்கிறது! ஆசார்ய ஜயந்தி இல்லாவிட்டால் க்ருஷ்ண ஜயந்தி ஏது? ந்ருஸிம்ஹ ஜயந்தி, ராமநவமி எல்லாம் ஏது? ராமாயணம் இருந்திருக்குமா? கீதை இருந்திருக்குமா?

எதற்காக் கொண்டாடணுமென்றால், கொண்டாட்டத்தால் அவருக்கு ஆகவேண்டியது ஒன்றுமில்லை. நமக்கேதான் ச்ரேயஸ். அவரை ஸ்மரிக்கிற புண்யம் ஏற்பட்டுச் சித்தமலம் போகும்.

நன்றியுணர்ச்சி என்பது மநுஷ்யனாகப் பிறந்தவனுக்கு அவச்யமோ இல்லையோ? ‘நன்றி மறவாமை’ என்பதைத்தானே பெரியவர்களெல்லாம் மநுஷ லக்ஷணத்தின் உச்சியில் சொல்கிறார்கள்? ஆகையால், நமக்கு இடைக்காலத்தில் அடைப்பட்டுப்போன மோக்ஷமார்க்கத்தை மறுபடியும் திறந்துவிட்டு, ஸநாதன தர்மத்தைப் புத்துயிரூட்டிக் கொடுத்து, சிவராத்ரி என்றும் ஸ்ரீஜயந்தி என்றும் ராமநவமி என்றும் பண்டிகைகள் கொண்டாடும் ஆனந்தத்தைக் கொடுத்தவரிடம் நன்றிக்கு அடையாளமாக அவருடைய ஜயந்தியைப் பண்டிகைகளிலெல்லாம் பெரிய பண்டிகையாகக் கொண்டாடவேண்டியது நியாயந்தானே?

தற்போது இந்த ஜயந்தியின் மஹத்வம் போதிய அளவு ஜனங்களுக்கு உணர்த்தப்பட்டிருக்கவில்லை. அதனால் தனியாக எங்கேயாவது யாராவது கொண்டாடினால் பத்துப் பேர்கூடச் சேர்வதில்லை. மடத்தில் கொண்டாடினால் கூட்டம் சேர்கிறது. மக்கள்மேல் குற்றமில்லை. முக்யத்வத்தை எடுத்துச் சொல்லி உணர்த்தாதது எங்கள் தப்புத்தான்.

எனக்குப் பேராசை — அது நிறைவேறுமோ, இல்லையோ? சொல்லி வைக்கிறேன்: சங்கர ஜயந்தி என்று எங்கே நடந்தாலும் அங்கே ஜனங்கள் படையெடுத்துப் போய்ப் பிரஸாத விநியோகத்தை அஸாத்யமாக்கி விடவேண்டுமென்று பேராசை! இதை நான் சொல்லிக் கொண்டே போனால் என்றைக்காவது நிறைவேறாதா?

Azhwars, Ramanujar, Desikar, Manavaala Maamunigal and others have idols in Perumal temples. Since Sri Vaishnavas have pride in this sect, they celebrate the birthdays of their Acharyas in a grand manner by doing special puja, procession to those idols along with prasadam distribution. Even for Saiva Acharyas like Appar, Sundarar and for all 63 Nayanmars, and Umapathi Sivam, if they have idols in Siva temples, celebrations are happenings. Since our Acharya does not belong to Vaishnava Sampradaya or Saiva Sampradaya but belong to Smartha Sampradaya, which accepts both, Acharya does not have idol in both the temples! Only few temples, where Vaidhika Puja is done or where there is yantra pratishta done by Acharya or where there is some association with Acharya, have Acharya’s idol.

Everyone should understand the significance of this festival and celebrate Acharya Jayanthi as a grand function is my wish. May be due to the reason that I survive because of His name, I have a thought that we need to celebrate this Jayanthi function as a grand one and should stand-out when compared to other celebrations. If there is no Acharya Jayanthi where is Krishna Jayanthi? Where is Narasimha Jayanthi, Rama Navami? Would there be Ramayana? Would there be Gita?

If you ask why to celebrate, by celebrating, there is nothing that is going to happen for Acharya. It is going to give prosperity only for us. By remembering Acharya, we get Punyam and lose our impurities. Thankfulness is important for any human being, isn’t it? “Being thankful” is considered to be the heights of human characteristics by all elders, isn’t it? So, isn’t it right for us to show our gratitude to Acharya by celebrating Acharya’s Jayanthi in a grand way, who helped us by opening the gates for Moksha marga, which was closed in the interim due to various reasons, who revived Sanaathana Dharma, who gave us the happiness of celebrating functions like Shivarathri. Sri Jayanthi and Rama Navami?

Currently, not all people realize the importance of this Jayanthi function. Because of that, even if someone celebrates this function all alone, not even 10 people join them. If we celebrate it in the Mutt, crowd gathers. It is not the fault of people. It is our mistake that we did not explain and stress the importance.

I have an intense desire – don’t know if it will happen or not? But, will tell: Wherever Shankara Jayanthi happens, people should go there in large quantities and make prasadam distribution an impossible task is my wish. If I keep telling this, wouldn’t this happen one day?
