நாரங்க பலம் & ஷட்பஞ்ச பலம்

எண்ணூர் அருகே கார்வேட் நகர் என்று ஓரிடம். அங்கு நவராத்திரி பூஜை. அந்த இடத்துக்கு போகணும்னா எண்ணூர் போய் அங்கிருந்து போட்டில் கயிறு கட்டி இழுத்து செல்வார்கள். தனிமையான இடம், ஒரு பெரிய வனாந்திரம் மாதிரி, இயற்கையின் எழில் கொஞ்சும்.

பெரியவா அந்த நவராத்திரியில் காஷ்ட மௌனமாயிருந்தார். அதாவது ஒன்பது நாளும் உபவாசம். கூடவே மௌனம். சைகையால் கூட விருப்பத்தை வெளியிடமாட்டார். நாங்கள் தரிசனத்துக்காக அங்கு சென்றிருந்தோம்.

அப்போது, பெரியவா ஒரு மரத்தடியிலே உட்கார்ந்து கொண்டிருந்தா. அன்றுதான் ஒன்பது நாள் மௌன விரதத்தை கலைத்தார். எங்கள் அருகாமையில் ஸ்ரீ ராமமூர்த்தி சர்மா என்ற பிரவசனம் செய்பவர்களும், ஒரு வருமானவரி துறையில் உள்ள முக்கிய நபரும் அமர்ந்திருந்தார்கள்.

பெரியவா சிரிச்சுண்டே ஸ்ரீ ராமமூர்த்தி சர்மாவைப் பார்த்து ”உனக்கு மாதம் எவ்வளவு வருமானம் வரும்”என்று கேட்டார்.

“சுமார் ரூ 300/- வரை வரும்”.

“நீ கடன் வாங்குவியா?” .

“அப்பப்போ ரூ 10, 20ன்னு வாங்குவேன்”

உடனே அருகிலிருந்த வருமானவரி ஆபிசரை நோக்கி, “உனக்கு எவ்வளவு சம்பளம்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

“ரூ 10,000/- வரும். அதுவும் போறாததால் அப்பப்போ ரூ 3000/- கடன் வாங்குவேன். குடும்பத்துலே இது சகஜம் தானே” என்றார்.

“எவ்வளவு இருந்தாலும் போறாதுதான். ஏன்னா நம் தேவைகளை பெருக்கிக் கொண்டே போகிறோம். போதும் என்று எண்ணம் எப்போ வருதோ அப்போதுதான் நல்ல கார்யம் செய்ய முடியும்” என்று உபதேசித்தார்.

பேசிக்கொண்டே, கையில் ஒரு ஆரஞ்சுப் பழத்தை எடுத்து உரித்தார். பெரியவா தோலை தன் கையிலேயே வைத்துக்கொண்டு பழத்தை வருமானவரி ஆபிஸரிடம் கொடுத்தார்.

கொடுத்ததோடு இல்லாமல், “அதில் எத்தனை சுளை இருக்கு?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அந்த ஆபிஸர், அந்த பழத்தை இரு பிளவாக செய்து “எண்ணி 6 + 5 மொத்தம் 11” என்று சொன்னார்.

பெரியவா கேட்டார், “இந்த பழத்தை ’ஷட் பஞ்ச பலம்’ (ஷட் = 6 , பஞ்ச = 5) என்று சொல்லலாம், இல்லியா?என்றார்.

உடனே ஸ்ரீ ராமமூர்த்தி சர்மாவும், வருமானவரி ஆபிஸரும் எழுந்து கீழே விழுந்து நமஸ்காரம் செய்தனர். எனக்கோ ஒன்னும் புரியவில்லை.

ஸ்ரீ ராமமூர்த்தி சர்மா தான், அந்த வருமானவரி ஆபிஸர் வீட்டுக்கு புரோஹிதம் செய்வது வழக்கம். ஒரு சமயம் அவசரத்தில் ஆரஞ்சு பழத்துக்கு சமஸ்கிருதத்தில் நாரங்க பலம் என்பதற்கு பதிலாக ஷட்பஞ்ச பலம் என்று சொல்லி விட்டதால், அதிகாரியிடம் வசை வாங்கிக் கட்டிண்டார்.

அது வேதவாக்கு பொய்யாகாது என்பதை காண்பிக்கவே இந்த திருவிளையாடலை பெரியவா நடத்தியிருக்கிறார் என புரிந்தது.

பெரியவா சூக்ஷ்மமா சொல்லுவா – நாம்தான் புரிஞ்சுக்கணும்

Naaranga Phalam & Shat Panja Phalam

There is a place called Corvette Nagar near Ennore. Periyava was camping there for the Navaratri pujai. To go to that place one must first go to Ennore and from there take a boat to reach Corvette Nagar. Surrounded by green trees, it was a place where nature was at her finest Splendor.

At that time, Periyava had been observing strict vow of silence. Even gestures were not used for communication. On the 9 th day, Periyava had completed his vow of silence.

That day Periyava was sitting beneath a tree Sri Ramamurthy Sarma, a well – known orator of pravachanams and an income tax officer were also seated nearby.

Smilingly, Periyava enquired of Sri Ramamurthy Sarma- “how much do you earn in a month?”

He replied “I earn around Rs.300 per month. Then Periyava further asked him “Do you also borrow money at times?” Sri Ramamurthy replied in the affirmative saying he would borrow Rs.10-20 at times based on need.

Then Periyava directed the same questions to the income tax officer. He replied that he was earning Rs.10,000 per month and still would borrow Rs. 3000 at times based on need.

“No matter how much we earn, if our wants are boundless, then no amount of earning will suffice. We should learn to limit our wants and only then can we engage in good deeds” advised Periyava.

During the course of His talk, Periyava peeled an orange. Keeping the peel with him, He handed the fruit to the tax officer and asked him how many segments did the orange have?

The officer split the fruit into two halves and counted 6 segments in one half and 5 segments in the other half and said there were 11 in total.

Then Periyava said “So do you think this fruit can be called “Shat-Pancha “(six and five in sanskrit) Phalam?

On hearing this, both the tax officer and Sri Ramamurthy sarma fell prostrate at Periyava’s feet. Why such a small question from Periyava should evoke such a big response from them?

Sri Ramamurthy sarma was the official priest doing the daily rituals in the tax officer’s house. Once during  a puja, he inadvertently referred to the orange fruit as “ Shat Pancha Phalam’ instead of the normally used “ naranga phalam”. The tax officer considered this as a lapse on Sri Ramamurthy’s part and showed his displeasure.

However Periyava with His boundless grace revealed that “No untruth can be uttered by vedic pundits. Even if something was said by them in haste, the might of their knowledge will convert it into truth.”

How Periyava came to know of an incident that transpired only between the tax officer and Sri Ramamurthy mama within the confines of his house , is yet another indication of the all-pervading , all knowing omnipresence of Periyava.
